Video Card dying?

My video card is starting to act up in the last few days. It would randomly show a garbled screen full of artifacts. At first I thought maybe it's overheating, but temperature monitor shows mid 30C. So just to be safe I clocked it back down to stock speeds. It still does it. Normally I would say the card is about to die because the last few video cards that died on me did the same thing, but the difference is that once they started showing the artifact screen, they never go back to normal regardless of reboots. Right now if my screen get garble, I can reboot, and get back to normal, which lasts from a few hours to an entire day. I have a VGA cable on the way so I will try that once it gets here (it's hooked up through DVI right now). What do you guys think?

Not yet. I might try that. It doesn't seem like a driver issue though, at least not any I've seen or read about.

Not to be super negative here, but my 9800pro did exactly what your describing for a few days before it finally died.

I had a GeForce 1 SDR and a Radeon 8500 do the same thing, but the difference is, once they start garbling up the screen, they stayed that way doesn't matter how many times I reboot the puter.

Well, mine crapped out while playing UT2K4 with my kids, I shut down and re-booted and all was good, for a day anyhow. Then it happened again, restarted, all good, and about 3 hours later, same thing. I said screw it, and went to bed. Booted up the next day and everything was fine, for an hour or so, and then bam, it died.
I'm not saying your card is dying, just that it could be.

Much worse than that, nothing is readable when mine acts up. The whole screen gets completely filled with artifacts. However, it's been over 24 hrs since it last acted up.

It's probably dying Time for you to start saving for a new one just in case... As far as the artifacts, I've only had cards do that to me when I've OC'd the memory on them. Could be that the memory is overheating or going bad on you.

My 9800Pro just died this way, there was no saving it no matter how much I tried. But now the machine freezes with either my old agp TNT2-M64, or my new X700pro, even in Windows.

Very strange, this time it lasted 8 days. Then it did it again. I looked at the voltage readings, and it says my 12V rail is at 11.04V. I thought that would be the problem, so I took my digital multimeter and measured the 12V rail directly off of the power supply, and it reads 12V. Is my motherboard's voltage regulators going out or just inaccurate sensors?

Chico my x1800xt did that. Three days and then it died. One you start seeing artifacts at the boot screen, you've got very, very little left.

No no, not at boot screen. My puter had been up for 8 days, then it happened while I was using Firefox.

EDIT: nevermind, you weren't talking to me. I thought you called me "chico" as in "dude" or "guy"
