I'm upgrading.

I need a new vid card.

Have done my research, and have discovered that vid cards are fucking expensive as hell....

After looking at many benchmarks I think I found a cheap alternative...

is this the radeon 9700 pro??? (not ez)

coupled with 1 gb ram, an amd athlon 64 3000+.... I think this game should run all the high end games fine...

are my assumptions correct???

you'd be better off getting a 9800 pro, or better yet a 6800

Like I said.....

I've done my research, for the amount of money that I've already spent upgrading... I don't want to spend any mroe than I have to...

So I HAVE DECIDED to purchase the Radeon 9700 Pro, my only question is...

http://www.imagestore.us/product.asp?pf_id=HY-RA9700-128P

is that the actual 9700 pro??? or is it some (ez?) piece of shit with the same name...

thanx...

adam.

the clock speeds are right... but thats a really shitty description that tells almost nothing. i would just google 9700 ez and see if it runs at 325 310, if it doesnt then that is a 9700 pro

Depending on what you have now...i'd save that 150 you're gonna spend on a bottleneck and wait till you have 250-280 and get a 6800 like the guy up above said...9700pro is on the way out...you might be able to play the newest games now, but with the HL2 engine coming out, I think you'll be happier if you wait another few weeks to a month...don't waste your money.

I cant spend more than $180... if that...

After looking at many benchmarks... for under $180 the Radeon 9700 Pro is the best card???

Am I wrong???

well, a 9800pro can be had for 180 now

edit: i thought so, but i guess not.. cheapest newegg has the real 9800pro is 197..

for the price range, yes id go for the 9700pro

Yes, it is the best card for that price range (so close to a 9800pro...but), but you are wasting your money...

I've seen some 9800 pros for <~170

try www.newegg.com I remember there being a ~$165 9800 pro.

It's a good card, the 9700 pro, but the 9800 pro is worth the looking into.

yeah, but you gotta watch out for those.. they sneak in the 128bit ones at taht price  jerks..

I'm pretty sure all 9700 pros are the same. I don't think they made a 9700 cripple. Unless you call the 9700 non pro that or the 9500. I think you'll be fine with that one. JUST in case though make sure they have a good return policy :p.

check the FS/FT forums here. people have been selling 9800s for 170-200, i saw a 9700 AIW for 150. i don't see why you CAN'T save up another 20 and get the 9800 pro at the least. the 9700 is 2 generations behind, and as it's been said, is just going to bottleneck everything. the truth is that the 9700 will run doom3 and hl2 fine, but not great, and any games after that, it's gonna struggle with.
