Video card causing artifacts?

Hello I've got an old computer I've been using to play videos. Unfortunately it's just started to show near constant artifacts. Can anyone give a judgment on which component is causing the artifacts? I'm guessing video card ram, but really don't know.

note" the second pic is after dragging an icon around. It leaves a trail of artifacts.

thank you!

Yeah, it's looking like the video RAM. You said it's an older computer, and these things happen. You can look at the thread here about baking cards back to life, but I don't think your card needs the solder to re-flow.

Yeah it's not a big deal. I'd just like to try and isolate the problem so I can try and sell the other, working parts.

Could it be the motherboard or CPU? I know it can be, and probably is, the gpu. and I think even system ram can cause artifacts.

Do you have another videocard that you can swap into that system? That'd be the easiest way to narrow down the culprit.

If it was anything else, you would notice other issues in addition to the visual problems. Have you seen any kind of data corruption or general instability?

sometimes it's the connection. But sure, that could be VC artifacts. U could swap em' or underclock them to confirm your theory. I'd check temps for sure before anything else.

Haha it's an old sapphire radeon 9800 pro. Going on 10 years old and doesn't have a temp sensor.

I don't have a VGA card but I think my friend does, I'll try that.

And no other problems besides the artifacts. This system has been the most stable I've ever had the pleasure of using.
