Hey

Wenn I upgraded to a faster PC I bought a nice looking case. :)

Only thing was, I forgot there was a frontdoor, so everytime I had to put in a cd,
I needed to hold the door with one hand open and put the cd in.

The damn door wouldn't keep open.

So I thought of ripping out the slide mechanism of an old cd-player

Automatic Frontdoor

Here is that guide I've promised (15 april 2005)GUIDE to "How to build your own Dooropener"

Made some adjustments,
- end contactors for the motor.
- LED's for letting me know if the motor has reached its endpoint.
- a 2-way switch.

I'm a leazy bastard

PS: All codecs you'll ever need.

teh hardcore! always wanted one...now add a infrared sensor, and control it with a remote

don't start me thinking.

mmmmmmmmm, maybe we have a little something at work ;)

haaaa,my girlfriend is gonna kill me

Video no worky. I DLed it and it came up with nothing.

*Edit*
Nevermind. I had to DL 2 other programs and update them just to watch it. That's crazy.

hi,

It's a low-motion DivX-file.
I downloaded every codecs (that's what they are called) there is.
So no problems anymore, ever.

And most XP Sp2 should be up to date.

your loss

Yeah I'm thinking about giving an instruction.

It,s not so hard to build.

First have to find an old cd_player, and start at the beginning(with pics)

Here is a little scheme of what the general idea is.

Untill then ;)

Nice attitude.

I DLed the Codecs as well. And I'm running Win XP SP2 and evidently it wasn't included with mine or something. I managed to watch the vid.

I did watch it though. I thought it was pretty cool. I like it. It was definitely ingenious.

In fact, I saved the video to my HD. :)

You should G-Spot future videos instead of complaining right away.

Nice door, Lite

Blah, blah , blah......

If it had been updated when I installed SP2 then it would've been handled before hand.

I blame Microsoft for including the necessary files for some rigs and not others. (Whether or not that's true).

I don't think it's Microsoft's duty or perogative to provide old Divx codecs which are owned by another company...then again, Divx started out as a hack of Microsoft's Mpeg-4...Nolonger though as Project Mayo.

awesome work, two suggestions

1) a remote, keychain one would be cool

2) have it detect when your CD-Rom is opening so it can open the door when you open a cd drive in windows

just cooler sell a remote for turning your comp on and off, maby you couls use one of them. or a remote fan sontroller from TT

what do you mean in your first point?

People never learn, cheap cases are cheap. Your mod is cool, but it arose from having a cheap case.

Inserting your own image sig everytime is also extremely lame. There is a reason that the forums sig won't do it.

I have one of those. It came with my comp, which is an XP Media Center 2005. It lets you put the comp into standby or hibernate, which ever you prefer.

maybe so, but you don't hear me b*tching to everybody about posting

photo's the size of an IMAX-screen

or having a sig 20 lines long detailing every freaking little thing there is on their rig.

you can handle a little GIF-file ?

....

free the mahi mahi dude

Peace

ho yeah,
and a setup isn't defined by how much it costs, but what YOU make of it.

that's called creativity, should try it sometime

You should read the rules, your self posting sig isn't the size of anything because people us different resolutions.
The sig is also limited to 10 lines so I don't know where you are getting 20 from. Plus the text is, well text, its not animated.
Rules said:
(22) No active links, graphics, cussing or advertising allowed in the SIGNATURE. Sig line is limited to 10 lines total as viewed @ 800 x 600 resolution or no more that 15 words per line.

Since you missed the part of the account sign up that says to read the rules, I posted a quick quote. Of course if you don't consider the pointless image a sig, it easily falls under the no adversiting, no spamming, or no abusing the VB codes.

Really.

Only two things you need for most uses are.

XviD Codec

FFDShow

A google search for either will return the official sites.

99.9999% of the time those will work on all video files, except .ogm and .mkv. You will need the special codecs for those, because those are multi-audio tracked and/or multi-subtitled files.

Very cool mod!

But.... am I the only one that noticed that when he clicks the switch LEFT the door opens to the RIGHT and when he clicks the switch RIGHT it closes to the LEFT.

That would annoy the heck out of me. :)

First of all, you're quite an observing guy.

I know I did it for a reason.
Because it's as simple as reversing the polarity of the feed to the switch/motor-circuit.

So I can best describe it as a thing of ergo-nomics.

as I am a lazy bastard, and I keep my discs,etc... in a drawer to the left of me

lol, same here, but my discs and comp are on the right

You guys keep your disks near the PC?

Mine are on the other side of the room, and I don't even have a rolling desk chair..

let your PC make your life a lazy one.

it should help me, not the other way around,no?

Grtz

yeah I was planning it

But haven't fond an old cd-player yet.
I'll probably get one this week from my cousin.

Grtz

when you say cd-player, do you mean a CD-ROM drive? Or a portable walkman style cd-player?
