I read they just recently started to experiment on Chromium to allow hardware acceleration in browsers. Do you find this takes away from the appeal of Linux (free, open source)?

As a desktop user with dual Xeons, it doesn't bother me - However I know the laptop brigade get all bent out of shape getting their CPU to do all the decoding even though the codecs used by the likes of YouTube are very efficient in relation to CPU decoding - In my testing the difference between hardware and software decoding in relation to CPU usage is virtually negligible at 1080p 50/60Hz.

It would be nice if Linux could have decoding parity with other operating systems.
