Viable upgrade for my Shuttle PC?

Thinking of upgrading my aging Shuttle.

It's based off of the Intel 975x chipset so my CPU choices are limited. Currently using a E6600 and thinking of going with possibly a Q6600 just for the extra cores.

Video card is a ATI 512MB 4850...not TOO bad...and I know the E6600 is a bottleneck as my GPU usage never goes above 70%. Thinking of upgrading it though...maybe a 5770 or GTX460, maybe even a 5850 if one can be had for a reasonable price.

Now Shuttles suck for overclocking...so CPU would be running stock or maybe slightly overclocked using SetFSB...I know my E6600 can do like 2.75ghz stable.

Either case...Q6600 going to be ok with a higher end GPU and current games?

Think the E8600 would be a better choice. it hat 1ghz higher clock than q6600, but only 2 cores.
 
The 975x chipset doesn't support E8XXX series CPU's :-\

The best CPU's I can upgrade to are the Q6400, Q6400, Q6700, and the QX6700...

GPU can be any dual slot card...the power supply has dual PCI-e but I believe it is only a 300-350 watt. However, with a quad core, 1 disk drive, and 1 optical drive 300 watts should be enough for even a ~5850/GTX460.

EDIT: 400 WATT POWER SUPPLY! :D
 
A Q6600 if you are stuck with stock speeds is not really worth it IMHO. 2.4GHz is pretty slow these days. Shuttles are not that bad for overclocking but I've left my Shuttle days behind. Used to be okay at S939 and S775 overclocking AFAIR. The powersupply and how cramed the videocards were were always the factors that scared me and why my Shuttle days are behind me.
 
Its hard to give anny advice here. i think its a little stupid to spend money on this upgrade. when what u really need is a sockett 1155 based system :)

but E6600, isn that weak. u pushing enough graphics details?
