According to DigiTimes, VIA Technologies is scheduled to launch its new “Isaiah” processor core in the first quarter of 2008.

Isaiah features a 64-bit architecture and will be manufactured on a 65nm process, as compared to 90nm for Esther. Other features include a V4 Bus speed of 1333MHz, up from 800MHz previously, and support for ECC (error checking and correction) memory and virtualization technology. The L2 Cache will also increase to 1MB from 128KB previously.

Hey, these things are starting to shape up to be pretty decent performers. Might have to grab one of these and throw 64-bit Ubuntu Server on it. :)

Might come in as a player with the big two.

Via will be better than amd ?

Not faster than either camp. VIA specialized in low footprints, low power consumption, and a very good performance/watt ratio. Enough to run XP or Linux server distros, but Vista and some Linux variants may be a little too much for it ATM.

Damn, 1MB of cache. That's a bit of a leap for Via. Although @65nm they should have no problem putting that much cache on the core. It should help tremendously with performance.

Too little too late. With AMD being forced into the budget and low power markets, VIA is going to see even more fierce competition. The fact that Intel has some nice low power core chips doesn’t help at all either.

As you can tell, I have never had much respect for VIA’s offerings
