I'm putting together this computer for my friend and i'm using the Via Epia-M10000 motherboard to save them money since they are only going to be using it for going on the internet and typing up papers.

The problem i'm having is that everytime windows is copying files over to the hard drive before it runs the setup of windows xp a lot of files don't copy and fail... so i have to hit esc to move onto the next file and then if that one doesn't load i have to skip it...

I took the hard drive out and hooked it up to my computer and loaded windows fine onto it so i could just swap it back into the computer i'm building and now it won't even go to the windows boot screen....

Anybody got any ideas?? I'm thinking of sending the Via Epia-M back in and just getting an nf7-s with a not so great AMD processor and vid card... then windows might install properly when i try to install it. It just doesn't make any sense why it won't now...

Any ideas would help me out a lot!

THanks

Perhaps it's a faulty mainboard? I've not heard of any other EPIA M owner having such a problem with XP (or any other OS, for that matter). Exchange it for another EPIA M(10k) mainboard and see whether the problem persists.

I had the older epia-m800 and it installed windows xp without any of these problems...

I did put 2 sticks of some generic SDRAM on the board and at startup it runs the ram test everytime... i'm not sure if thats a problem..
