Hi there,

I am looking to buy some cheap hardware to build a budget HTPC that I'll also be using for some console emulation (nes, snes, n64). I was just wondering if anyone had any experience trying out some of the really cheap ITX solutions with integrated VIA processors. I can't seem to find much on google and am curious how they would perform.

All I can really find on them is that they apparently run linux fine, but thats not my intent. Any feedback or suggestions would be great.

Thanks

This is the cheapest I could come up with, however I would go with an i3 and a socket 1155 itx board. This includes a blu ray drive - not sure if that is needed. All you need to add is a hard drive.

If you go the VIA route it sounds like more of a project, just get something that is known to be a solid performer. The e-350 is slow but works for htpc needs, so if you have a micro center near you they have the cheapest prices on an i3 and have $40 off a motherboard purchase.
