Hey guys,
I was playing some quake 4 the other day, and my temp monitoring program flashed me a warning that my CPU was over 55c. I opened up the case, and sure enough my pump was hot as hell, but not making any vibration. I shut the machine down and took the pump out of the loop to see if there was some kind of blockage or something.
After removing the pump from my case I noticed that I could get it to start by prodding the impeller with a screwdriver, but then if i cut the power and turned it back on nothing would happen... I'm guessing that the pump overheated at some point and one of the coils burned out, thus when in motion it can continue to drive the impeller, but at rest the stator is so out of balance it can't start the blades up...
I was reading through the back-threads trying to figure out if anyone else had the same trouble with their via 1300. I found: this thread where in several people seemed to have gotten about the same service life out of the 1300 that I did (almost exactly 6 months to the day).
I just thought I'd start a quick thread with a title that might catch eyes in a search on the pump, mostly to let other w/c noobies out there know that the 1300 can be a fun pump to play around with, but not to expect much in the way of longevity from it.
Oh, well off to try something new (I wonder if my pet store has any mag 3s on the shelf...)
