Maybe some of you read my previous befuddled post, you could call it "the tale of a n00b and HVD SCSI".

In any case, today was my day of shining glory. My QLogic QLA1240D 64-bit PCI-X dual channel HVD SCSI controller arrived in the mail! Then I looked at the connectors on the board.

"Hey, these things are really small .... and thin ..... and hey, my cable doesn't plug into them! Hey, wait! WTF? ARGH!"

Some googling later, I discovered the connectors for this card are "VHDCI" SCSI connectors. My drives, and the cable I have, are apparently "HD" 68 pin SCSI, or just "the normal 68 pin kind".

If I fork over a ludicrous sum of money for an adaptor for VHDCI 68 pin to HD 68 pin, will it work without issue? I mean, it should just be the only issue is the size of the connector head: the cabling specs are the same for VHDCI and HD, right?
 
Ouch.

You know what I think? I think for the amount of trouble old SCSI gives, you are better off just buying a new hard drive. You get something bigger with a warranty and probably even faster, for less money when all is said and done.

Well, I would but ..... this is kinda what I do - I love playing around with old computer stuff, although the cost for doing SCSI is still quite high. When I said the price for an adapter is 'ludicrous' I meant "charging $20 US for a hunk of plastic and metal that cost the producer 15 cents" is ludicrous. In any case, does anybody have any success or horror stories for cable adaptors? Any manufacturers to recommend or dis?

There are Adapters, Just try and buy one. I'll dig though my SCSI Box tomorrow and see if I've got anything you can use. Also if you think that's tough try getting a SCA SCSI disk to work with a PCI Controller.

I have some SCA racks for sale in the FS/FT forums with a controller cables and all...
