VGA Waves vs. HDMI Slow Internet

Wondering if this is normal...

When I'm connecting my laptop to my new monitor with the VGA cable there are subtle waves in the background and my internet speed drops from ~50mb/s to 11mb/s.

When I connect via HDMI the waves go away BUT my internet speed drops to an unusable 1mb/s.

Is this a common issue or possible a bad cord?
