VGA to Component???

It appears to be a male VGA D-Sub, so you could attach that to a video card or console system (with a female VGA plug on the back). I could see where you would want to attach this to the back of a monitor/TV, but some instinct (something I can't explain) tells me that would be a bad idea. (Something about the signal traveling all that way, THEN getting converted.... something sounds bad there.)

At the top level, appears to be decent--not sure if it's ideal or what the quality will be. You also have the issue of figuring out how to do audio (may not be an issue, depending on the plugs used and the distance between the monitor plug and the L-R plugs for the audio on the TV/monitor.)

They use it for that exact reason with the projector. They plug the component source into the vga input on the projector in order to project HDTV. I would do the same but use a monitor instead of projector. If it works for the projector I would think it would work for a monitor.

It won't work. Adapters like that work because all 15 pins in a VGA cable are not used. This allows them to be used for other purposes, like to carry component signals. In short, the projector's VGA connector has these extra pins live, but your HDTV or monitor wouldn't, so it won't work.

Old Matrox DualHead video cards used to have a dongle that had VGA on one end and like S-Video and composite on the other. Obviously if you tried to plug that into any old video card it wouldn't magically be outputting s-video and composite signals, it only worked because the Matrox cards had their VGA ports set up to use it.

Hmph, I didn't even think of that--I figured, at worst, that it would convert it to a pretty low quality signal (that would still work). I do like that thought of working the unused pins on the VGA plug, though.... I don't know why I didn't think of that earlier, I do it all the time on serial cables for some hardware I'm working on.

*SIGH* Brain = old, day = young. =)

That makes sense. To bad. If the 2007wfp im getting wasnt redesigned featuring component inputs I was going to add my own using the vga connection that for me would otherwise never be used. :(
