VGA Silencer necessary?

I'm going to be ordering a Sapphire ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB 256Bit soon. I probably will not be OC'ing much if at all, should I still get the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer or should it run fine with the stock HSF?
 
the silencer is a really good cooler and stock can barely cool the card so id say get it

Yes the Silencer will shave off about 10 degrees Celsius from your GPU temps. However, if you don't intend to overclock to the last few Mhz's, the stock heatsink is fine. Come on, 98% of all cards out there are cooled with the stock heatsink, and no mass problems are reported...
 
I agree with complex, because the stock cooler on the Pros is not very good at all. It will certainly work, but it puts unnecessary strain on the card because it doesn't dissipate enough heat, and the Pro runs very hot. With just the stock cooler, you will notice an increase in your CPU and case temps after installing the Pro. With the VGA silencer, the hot air from the Pro is exhausted right out of the case, keeping your temps nice and low, where they should be.
 
these cards and their cooling are designed with their heat output in mind. sure they may run hot for the enthusiest, but they are designed to run with max stability in most applications. i would generally disagree that a 3rd part cooler is NECCESARY. if you are not overclocking then dont worry about the extra cooling.

but then again, everyone thinks differently about thisdifferently. i used to be all about the lowest possible temps, and then i realized that some hardware just runs hot, and thats fine. some people worry about their hardware over heating and take measures to ensure that that will not happen, so it depends on your acceptable level of heat management. if you are worried that stock temps are too high, then add some cooling
 
Okay... so it looks like I will just stick with stock, but if I have any heat issues then I will just order the Silencer at a later point.
