1. I noticed that some cables have 14 and others have 15 pins. Is there a difference between one and the other?

2. I also noticed that some cables are fatter than others, does the fatter cable provide even better image quality?

3. My current cable (6ft) is not long enough, I need around 10-14ft. What cable would you recommend (male to male ends)?

4. And for my final question, I can run XP at 1680x1050 but games do NOT want to go higher than 1280x960 (or something of the sort). I updated the drivers to the latest and so forth but i still have the same result. It does not matter what game i pick, Halo, FEAR, GRAW, and anything else only runs at 1280. Is there something I am doing wrong or that I'm missing?

Thanks for all your help.

If the cable that came/attached with your monitor have 15 pins, you better buy one with 15 pins because we don't know if the monitor use it. If not it doesn't matters.

Yes, it provide better image quality especially when you have longer cable. The Vga cable is 3 coaxial (R, G, B) and twisted pairs (Vsync, Hsync and control signals) in 1 cable. Bigger the coax better the image quality.

If the cable is about 3/8" diameter or bigger it's ok.

What is your system? (Video card, monitor, cpu, mem, ...)

My bad, I completely forgot to add my specs.

- Intel E6400 (stock speed + cooling)
- Asus P5W DH Deluxe
- 2GB DDR2 800 (Corsair)
- eVGA 7900GT KO at stock
- Integrated sound (poopy, I know)
- Viewsonic VX2025WM with a brokn DVI (screw you Viewsonic for wanting to me to pay for shipping!)
- XP Pro SP2, all updated

This problem has been going on for the past several weeks, even with my old Sempron build with an ATI card. Could it be the cable itself? I've been using the stock cable.

This raises a question. Does the cable make a difference for a card in 3D mode? I noticed that it doesn't for 2D (running XP at native res) but whenever I try to play a 3D game, the damn machine does not want to go higher. Do games require a higher bandwidth VGA cable (if this even exists, I think I made it up)?

Really strange problem.

2D or 3D it's not important because the final image is 2D for the monitor.

Do you have the last Forceware driver for your card?
And check the Device Manager (Shortcut: Windows Key + Pause/break) for exclamation (!) and question (?) mark.

I thought it was a dumb question, didn't hurt to ask =/. As far as drivers conflict, nothing. I also have the latest drivers but this crap has been going on since my ATI card and that Sempron build.

Aside from any other cable recommendation, does anyone else have any ideas as to why games are limited to 1280x960?
