Hey. So, my stock VGA fan died on me (card is ATI 9700 Pro), and I decided to buy a VANTEC ICEBERQ4 COPPER VGA COOLER. Installation was easy with nothing going bad. I turn on the computer and the beautiful blue light comes on and everything works fine. I decide to try 'er out on some games, Doom 3 for example. I'll play about 30 seconds of it in the actual game and then everything will freeze on me. I figure I'd better try a different game like Worms Armageddon, but still the same problem. iTunes framerate on the cool visual effects thingy maxes out at 17 fps! What's going on? :(

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Bingo. Vantec's ice berg 4 was a little dinky thing if I remeber correctly, probably topped out its life at the Ti4200. I'd recommend getting a VGA silencer from arctic cooling :cool:
 
Either the heatsink that you installed is too small/not good enough at cooling to cool a 9700pro, or you mounted it slightly wrong and it is not making proper contact. The image freezing on the computer and the computer freezing altogether generally means that either your CPU overclock is too high (doubtful since all you changed was the GPU's cooler), or your GPU is overheating.
 
Although I would agree that the Vantec is probably too small for your card, you might also want to check and make sure you got the shim off the GPU. Most (if not all) of the aftermarket coolers won't make any contact with the 9700 core if you don't get that shim out of the way.
 
Grr! So, I replaced the Vantec with the original stock fan (she's got a few hours left) and I tried to run a game and same problem that I had with the Vantec. Game crashes, Windows freezes, and an angry computer nerd! :D Did I kill my video card?
