Here is my issue. I recently purchased a DVI - D cable because I wanted to hook my HD TV (26" sharp aquos 720p) to my computer. I've had my computer for about 4 years and never used the DVI port, have always used S video. When I plug in the DVI cable to my 9800 pro, my primary monitor, which is an old crt using the VGA port goes blank. Nothing appears on the LCD. As soon as I unplug the DVI cable, the image comes back to the CRT. Has anyone ever seen this before? I first thought it was an issue with the res so I tried 800 X 600 and also 1280 X 768 (a few others but I don't recall the specifics). If I leave both cables plugged in and reboot my PC, the boot up is displayed on the primary monitor and not the LCD. As soon as Windows XP loads the screen goes blank (on the CRT, nothing ever shows up on the LCD).

Summary:
OS: Windows XP
GPU: 9800 pro
Cable: DVI-D/VGA
TV: Sharp Aquos 26 inch (it's about 2 years old, can get exact model # if needed)

It has been a really long time since I last logged in, so long, I don't remember my password, and don't have access to the email account I used to register. ID was EC_Hern.

Any help is appreciated!

keep the crt unplugged, does the LCD show anything? Is your LCD digital you may need the digital cable.

I appreciate the reply. I did try to boot up only using the LCD (Using DVI - D cable) and nothing appeared. I believe the LCD TV does accept a digital signal. I believe the DVI-D cable supplies a digital signal, DVI-I supplies both (digital and analog) correct?

Can anyone confirm if the signal that is sent out during boot up is Analog? If so this would explain why I can not see Analog data on the LCD since I'm using a DVI - D cable. It doesn't explain why the CRT goes blank when the log on page should appear though.

check with the manufacturer of the LCD and verify what you are using is correct. Your video card maybe freaking out as well.

Which video card are you using?

Ok the issue was a combination of 2 things.

1. Drivers.
2. There is a setting on my Sharp Aquos that allows you to specify weather you are receiving a digital or analog DVI signal.

Updated the drivers (fixed the issue with the CRT turning off when the DVI cable was plugged in). and set the DVI to digital. Problem solved!

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it!
