I recently baught a digital camera and it also operates as a web cam, but when i try to use the program that comes packed with it, it says i need a vfw driver,

im on a winxp, radeon9700pro, machine, with catalyst 3.9 and dx9b.

i am having troubles getting this driver since alot of links are dead, i will be greatly honored if anyone could help me with this.

Not to scare ya, but this is what a google search brought up,

"Video for Windows (VfW) is the old standard developed to allow Windows software to interface with a wide variety of Video hardware such as Capture cards, webcams and TV-cards. It's been around since Windows 3.1. It's age and it's straightforward design have earned it tremendous support. It is important to note that most of the VfW drivers in existance are Win9x-only, and not at all compatible with NT/2K/XP (a.k.a. "the future")."

So, you may have some compatibility problems even if you do find a working driver. How old is the camera/webcam that you bought?

edit: conflicting reports. I found another forum post that says that it supports some, but not all. So, I'd wait for someone more knowledgeable to come along and set things straight.

Hope you can find a solution.

its a 230.00$ camera (sale price), as far as i know its up to date, the instructions manual says compatible with win9x/2000/xp/nt
i did a search on the vfw driver that said will make compatible with the 9700pro, but i click the download link and it was dead,,,
so i think there still may be hope.

Is there a download link to those DLLs? If so, I suggest downloading them, and just throwing them in the directory where DLLs go. I guess it would be C:\WINDOWS\system32\, but I can't be too sure. I found a file in that directory called vp6vfw.dll, and another called vp31vfw.dll. I think they may be related to your problem.

Good luck, hope you solve your problem, or at least find a work around.

yah,, those dlls were already in my sys32, i downloaded a few video codecs that claims to have the vfw driver bundled with it, but as much to my surprise, nuthing,, ill leep searching the odds are slim but thanks for you responses.
