I have heard of a few people doing this already so I have a question. How are the temps under full load at high fan speed? I am debating using my old VF700 in place of my stock cooler. Also, do the ram and VRMs need cooling? My case has really good flow so wouldn't they run cooler being open air than under a heater copper plate with at thick "thermal pad"? I only ask because it looks cheaper to buy a new cooler that comes with sinks than to buy just ram sinks!! what a ripoff!
 
I have the VF700-AlCu, have had it on there a couple weeks and it cools slightly better than stock. I am seeing 40s for idle but still get into the 80s when using Furmark to stress test. It is silent though while the stock one was pretty noticeable at 65%. I see that many do not put sinks on the RAM or VRMs but I went ahead and used the Zalman sinks on both. I also used AS5 on the GPU. I am probably going to order the Accelero S1 rev 2 and try some volt mods, I just had the VF700 laying around.

So it is an improvement but mostly because it is quieter.
 
So are you getting similar performance to the stock cooler set to 65%, but much quieter? That'd be enough for me. I dont really want to overclock, but the Australian summers can get hot and the stock cooler was way too noisy on my friend's at anything above 30%.

Also its hard to find good coolers in Australia, can't find anywhere selling an Accelero, or even a DuOrb (saw someone selling a CPU DuOrb, but not a GPU one).
 
I run a Antec Nine Hundred case though and the case fans are pretty loud, but the stock fan on the 4850 could be heard above everything pretty easily @ 50% or higher. I cannot hear the Zalman but it is probably drowned out by all the case fans.
 
Highly recommend an S1 rev 2. Even passive it will be better then the VF-700 and VF-900 providing your case has decent airflow.
