very weird video problem

I have been using this computer for 3 years with the 6800GT, i found out that Direct draw acceleration has been disable because it is not available
AGP lecture acceleration is also not available in the DX diagnostic tool.
I start noticing when watching videos and they look blur, also can see very weird pixels "large size."

I uninstall/reinstall the forceware drivers twice, also use driver cleaner.
Trying to run Quake 4 i get a memory error massage, saying can't load on to memory, what type of memory not sure; system ram or video ram?
Farcry I test it, works fine and GTA sanandres. I try running windvd with a dvd movie and it crashes before running any movie since it has to use hardware.
It was all fine till today.
My video card is not over clock, I disable OC and back to stock speed, but still have this pro.
I have Rivatunner install.

First, can you run Memtest86 to determine if it's your RAM? (Ultimate Boot CD has Memtest in it so you can run it in the BIOS) and if you don't get any RAM errors, it could be your video card buying the farm.

Also please list all the specs. We need more information than just a 6800GT.

ok i got some pics'
P4 HT 3.2
2 gigs of DDR ram at 400mhz stock "4 sticks, all DIMM's occupied"
2X 40GB Ultra320 SCSI HD
XP service pack 2
6800GT with the latest forceware, use custom cooling, no overheat problems, in fact it cools better then the stock. ARCTIC COOLING AVC-NV5R3 NV Silencer Rev.3.
im going to use the Memtest86, let you know.

ok, i ran the Memtest86 test when I went to sleep last night, woke up and it was still running test and found zero errors. It said it has been running for like 3 1/2 hours. I just decide to exit out.
still don't get this, I just tried playing Call Duty 2 and it runs fine, if my video card memory is gone, how the heck will I run this game. Could there be something wrong with my mobo too?

Just uninstall the mobo chipset from the device manager and reinstall with the latest one from the manufacture site "Intel." still have the same problem. This is getting to be very frustrated.

found this in event view log "The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
oreans32" not sure what that is

Do you have a copy of Doom 3 laying around? If alot of your other games work but quake is giving you problems possibly you have some of your OpenGL files are corrupt.

Sounds like a clean reformat will do the trick.

so i have to format and do a clean windows install? i hate that cause is a lot of work.
also if is OpenGL how come my DX windows i see; Directdraw acceleration not available and AGP texture accleration not available. Not sure is because of OpenGl.
since i notice i can't use hardware accleraion, even when playing back videos in winmedia I see video distortion. I have my hardware acceleration to full.

In the DX diagnose tool, i see the Approx total memory is displaying n/a ? WTF is going on

A lot of work to reformat? You have speedy SCSI hard drives and if you have a back up HD, then it shouldn't be a trouble. Although you can do that when you're still stuck.

The person above me might be right, your OpenGL files are probably corrupt, but download this open source free game that just came out (uses Quake 3 engine/concept) and is a 72MB download http://www.fileplanet.com/171128/170000/fileinfo/OpenArena-0.6.0-[Free-Game]

If your PC can run this, then it's the Doom 3 engine. Is the Q4 patched to the latest version? Do you remember which driver version worked for Quake (video card drivers)?

see if you can reinstall directx or update it in someway, i know its a pain in the ass to do so, but i think its just some dx files are corrupt or missing thus your getting dx problems.

had similar myself a while back but I had to format as nothing I could do to dx would make it right but a format sorted it :)

I am not suggesting you format, but I would say to try and repair dx/update or if that fails roll your pc back to a previous time with system restore.

Not sure of an option of repair DX but I know only about downloading DX and reinstall it.
btw, I'm not concern if is a software problem, if reinstall DX don't work then I will have to clean install my OS. I will post the results after install windows

Now I'm not worry about the software part like reinstall XP, more concern about hardware problem. But if the ram on the graphics board is screw up or fried how will the card run any way?

Thats why were trying to help you eliminate possible software problems first. If our fixes do not work and a reformat does not work either then your looking at a hardware issue. Its far easier to follow the tips that have been given here to determine whats wrong than checking hardware first.

Good to hear your system is being more cooperative. Sorry you had to do a reformat. ;)

Hmm, that is interesting. You'll note on the following page that the 6-Series GeForce cards premiered in April of 2004.

How did you get yours so early!?!
i build my computer 3 years and 4 month ago, but bought the 6800 video card ;
date was August 2004. :p
before I was still using the Geforce 5200
next year im building a new rig, and see what Nvidia has to offer by June 07 hopefully the new versions of the G8 will have GDDR4. I was expecting that and PCI express 2.0 should come out mid 07 also.

Good to hear that a format & clean Windows install helped ... I think I'm having a similar problem, see my thread: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1127069

I tried to look at your screenshots but i couldn't tell if i was looking at the picture or if my comp was messing it up. Did websites get really bad when you scrolled? And when you dragged windows?

Anyway I'm gonna try formatting.
