A build/design I am working on requires a VERY small, but powerful PSU. I have been searching high and low with moderate success and could really use some [H] input. My needs include powering the following components:

Motherboard: mITX, mATX
Processor: Intel i7 2600k (overclocked to 4.4-4.8)
Video: Single card discrete 3d graphics such as Radeon 6950 or equivalent.
Storage: 1 or 2 2.5' SATA
Etc: A slim BR/DVD SATA drive, a H100 water cooler with 2 120mm fans

Some possible contenders I have found include:
1. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817338080
2. Various 1u server power supplies
3. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817377063 (Any idea if this even supports connectors?)

I have also been looking at PSU from http://www.powergatellc.com/ac-dc-power-supplies.html which would be the definite winner if it is possible to configure them for my uses. Can anyone comment on if it is possible to use these PSU's for a PC? Is it possible to mod connectors onto these? The NEVO+600 is particularly attractive.

I appreciate your input guys! With your help I can get this project underway!

I've seen some insane setups in Shuttle Barebone PC's. Their power supplies are very good; you may want to try looking for one of them.

These are supposed to be pretty decent. Iirc the most powerful units of this from factor you can find.

This one or get the silverstone version.

Has a $10 MIR so it would be $5 cheaper.

300W is not doable with your setup unless you run your CPU at stock speeds.

There is the strider plus series as well. It is not small by any means, but it is shorter than most ATX PSUs.

This is your best option: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151090

However, it would not be suitable for a heavily-overclocked i7 with a relatively high-end video card. You won't find anything in this kind of form factor that will be enough for that. You'll either have to lower your power draw or make room for a full-size PSU.
I agree that 300W won't cut it for my purposes. Fortunately there are a few options out there in a smaller package such as 1u server psu's and some specialty units for sff guys like the psu I linked #1.

Yeah, shuttle is pretty great. I've owned a shuttle system previously and it was a beast of a lan box. I did manage a solid overclock on it even with their much slimmer PSU. Shuttle was the first place I looked but unfortunately they have not increased the power of their units in a while now and they appear too underpowered to suit my needs.

What are your limiting dimensions (LWH?)
As I'm still early in design, I don't have a set dimension restraint yet. However, my goals are somewhere in the range of 17x12x2.5. Some preliminary models show that it will likely be possible, although a smaller power supply would definitely help!

I like the looks of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817104132&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10440897&PID=3891137&SID=rewrite and I will add that to my short list, although i think the PSU I linked in #1 is still my top contender. That brand also makes some 1u server psu's that I've heard good things about.

why do u need a small psu?
I will be designing a system as described in the OP in a sff slim enclosure. I have more or less succeeded in fitting everything in place, but a smaller psu would definitely give me more options for design.

1U power supplies are noisy bastards, you really want to avoid them :)

But if you insist on getting a 1U unit, you can't do better than Zippy/Emacs.
