I just built a new comp, a64 3200, MSI K8N platnium, BFG Geforce 6800GT, 1gig corsair xms ram (2,3,3,6). It ran fine for the first few hours, and i played lots of games. Then I ran Source Beta again, and about 10 secs into it, it crashes with weird pixels. Now, I get them everywhere, even at the windows xp desktop. Basically after scrolling in web pages all the text gets corrupted, and pixels are off colored, misplaced, etc. It is not a temperature problem, the gfx card is at 67C, and the processor is around there too.

I'll try to post a picture later, b/c i havent installed my ftp client yet.

Thx in advance

It seems to have disappeared on its own accord. Also, is 60C idle temp on an athlon64 3200+ normal? I'm using the stock hsf

for idling temps that sounds high to me. what are your load temps?

Load temps are around 71-72C, with prime95 running.

My case is incredibly cluttered, horrible airflow at the moment. Also, I think the thermal pad on the HSF might be a tiny bit messed up, not sure tho.

Is 67C idle 6800gt temp high? Is 46C ambient temp high too?

the temp on the GT is fine. mine idlesat 64C so there isnt much difference in temps there. but the CPU is getting a bit hot. id suggest a new heatsink and fan. take a look at the SP-97 from thermalright heres a link to a review http://www.overclockercafe.com/Reviews/cooling/ThermalRight_SP-97/
and get a good fan for it also. i have the P4 equivalent to that heatsink and i love it. keeps my P4 3.2 running around 36C @ idle and never goes over 44C on load

Ok, I may do taht. But what about the ambient temp of 44C? Is that really high for that?

What temperature do you keep your thermostat in your home at? Also, do you have a fan pulling air into the case at the base of the front of your case?

Yes, but there are no air intake hoels in the front of the case. I may cut/drill a few. Whats a good way to drill holes in plastic? (I'm new to modding)

You need to grab yourself a tube of Arctic Silver 5, take off that crappy thermal pad on your processor and apply the AS5!

67 is aobut 10 c higher then most are getting but it should not cause your issue.

Set the memory timing from 2 to 2.5... (2.5-3-3-6)

If you check the Corsair website, their memory is rated CAS 2 for Intel platforms, but only CAS 2.5 for AMD. That may be causing your corruption.

It's almost the same system I built, so I have some knowledge to give :)

You must have got an exceptional card or have some 3rd party cooler installed????
A recent review of a "stock" BFG 6800GT OC showed that particular board running @ 80+C under load. For comparison my PNY 6800GT runs as high as 82C under load, 62C idle.

Uninstall/reinstall graphics drivers??

Windows XP has the crude and crusty "ftp" installed

Start -> Run -> command -> ftp blah.blam.com
