Very Odd Problems on New build

I just built a new computer for myself and it went off fine. But i then built a system for my friend and he's having odd software problems. It seems on his AOL Instant messenger, everytime his screen saver goes up, his AIM shuts down. He's also having problems downloading stuff off the internet. He can download them fine but he gets some error ( i haven't had time to take a look at the computer in detail yet). Does anyone know whats wrong. Here are his specs:

450 W power
AMD 64 3500+ processor
Abit KN8-SLI Mobo
1Gb OCZ RAM
Nvidia Geforce 6800 Video Card

This could be because when the screen saver goes up, the computer is going into standby, which can disconnect internet connections.

This might be related to the known issue with the nVidia firewall on NF4 motherboards corrupting downloads. If he's installed the firewall software, this could be the problem.
