Very odd "Detecting IDE Drives + DISK BOOT FAILURE" on every SECOND boot.

I'm on a DFI DK 790FX M2RS right now with a 955BE and every SECOND time I start my computer, I hang at "Detecting IDE Drives" for a minute or two and after it finishes detecting the drives, I am faced with DISK BOOT FAILURE PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.

This is only happening every other time I boot the computer, which strikes me as very odd. When the computer does boot, it functions perfectly fine with no hangs, lag, or any errors.

I have google'd the problem and tried a various assortment of solutions. I have tried unplugging all USBs, I have tried unplugging all other SATA connectors, I have tried using both Native and Legacy IDE in my bios(my bios does not have AHCI apparently), I have tried unplugging all PCI/PCIE cards apart from my GPU.

I'm sure the board is not faulty either, I had just pulled it from another working computer which I had parted out on.

The drive in questions is a Vertex 3 MI, which I am absolutely sure is not faulty, as I just pulled it from a working system today.

When you say boot, are these hard reboots (powered down and started up, then powered down again and the second time powered up it fails) or just soft reboots (reset button or ctrl-alt-del)?

Are these after proper shutdowns (start -> shutdown)? If so, what happens if you do an improper shutdown (yank the power, etc)?

Same thing, either way, regardless of shutdown method I get a long wait on DETECTING IDE DRIVES and a disk boot failure. But this is only happening every second time the computer boots.

I think it may be a bios setting of some sort.

I have the same issue but with a OCZ Vertex 2 SSD and mine happens every time... not every other time.

Did you ever get the issue fixed?
