Very odd CPU issue.

I'm having an issue with my CPU temp or CPU temp detector. This is what happens... I'll put my computer on stand by mode, then... an hour later or so I'll come back and wake it up. However, I can't wake it normally, I have to use the power button instead of Kb(I can sometimes wake it with my KB). Once I get it out fo Stand by mode, it shows my CPU temps are borderline what I set for Max, which is 60c. Normally it's somewhere around 56c, and the other odd thing... it won't budge. It sits around 56c until I restart my comp, then it's fine. After the restart it's back where it should be, low 30's and high 20's.

This happens with Everest and Speedfan, and once I restart the comp, it's back to normal. I also noticed, this only seems to happen when I put my comp in Stand by mode with a temp moniter program on.

Does this sound fimilar to anyone?

One more thing to note, even with my CPU temp skyrocketed, my case temp is somewhere around 32c, which is alittle higher then my idle CPU temp. Everest also shows my CPU Fan is running about twice as fast as normal, yet the temps stay the same. I have an AMD X2 4200 OCed to 2.5g.

I'm not even going to guess yet. I will tell you that noone else is going to either, unless you post some specs. At very least your motherboard and power supply.

In that case,

DFI Lanparty UT nF4-D
4200 X2 @ 2.5ghz
550 Neo HT Antec PSU
X1900XT

I don't see any other specs really being relavent to the situation, so I'll leave em out.

I'm really just curious more then anything. Other then the fact that my CPU temp is high, like I mentioned above, my fan also reads high when this is going on. Only thing I could think of was CPU activity after I put it in Stand by, which is when the fans are off... but what could the CPU be processing during these times to reach those temps? About to stick my hands in there and check for some warmth. If anything, the Heatsink is all copper, so I should feel some heat dissipation from the CPU.

I'm thinking there's some fauly indicators, or just jacked up compatibility with the board and Software. I may try installing the Ntune software, maybe I'll see some different results with that.

Still open for advise here if anyone has it, thanks.

I don't believe that there is anything running when windows goes into standby mode. My guess is that somehow the address in memory where speed fan is reading the temp from is getting corrupted or isn't being read properly.

When you reboot and you immediately go into the bios does it show the high temperature? If so then there is something odd about standby mode, otherwise it's just the software you are using to monitor the temp.

Nope, it shows the temps at there normal idle range in bios. So yeah, just some weird software complication I'm guessing.
