With regard to CPU's that use integrated graphics, when a video card is installed, is extra processing power "freed up" for other tasks, or does a portion of the chip just become dead/disabled and the processing power cannot be used elsewhere?
most of the time the onboard video is simply disabled, though you can still utilize intel's on-die gpu through technologies like quicksync to convert video.
