here's my problem....when i start up my computer, i get all kinds of vertical lines in a pattern across te screen, like right now on that computer its sitting at the LILO bootloader and there are 1/2 inch wide lines running vertically that are made up of lots of different colors, when i boot into windows i cant even log in and the monitor just shuts off and the computer restarts after a while. i tried cleaning it and everything is clean and i put new thermal paste on the cpu and graphics card, cpu heat shouldn't be a problem at all, because my temp usually runs about 31C. there used to be like little dots of color in random places but now it has gotten much worse, i've tried different drivers and that does nothing.....anyone have any ideas?

Swap in a different video card and try your current video card with a different monitor.

Report back with your findings.

well aparently there's something wrong with my geforce4 ti4400. i put in my all-in-wonder 7500 from my htpc and it works perfectly. i know that the GPU on the ti4400 isn't overheating, so it must be something with the video ram. i've had ramsinks on there for a long time so i'm going to try and take them off, maybe the tape stuff got dusty and clogged them up, this 7500 works perfectly though, no small color dots or anything...

ok....the 7500 works fine in both computers, and the ti4400 has weird colored lines that run vertical every other 1/2 inch or so....it did so in both of my computers....it cant be the GPU overheating because i just cleaned the copper heatsink on it and re-applied thermal paste to it...do you think it's dead ?
