Verizon: Thunderbolt vs. Other Android(Or wait)?

Have to make this a quick post, so I'll get right to the point. Time for an upgrade(currently have an enV Touch with all data blocked).

Going to get data when I upgrade. My fiance has an iPhone 4, would like to get something that uses Android(I'm a Computer Science student, would like to try out make apps on both platforms). I was going to wait for the Droid Bionic, but with rumors saying that it's cancelled I'm considering upgrading now instead of waiting.

My main consideration is the Thunderbolt, but wanted to hear what [H] had to say about the other phones that are currently out(or will be out within the next month - month 1/2).

I'm in and out my car ~6 hours during the week, so if I get the Thunderbolt it should have enough time to charge(heard it has battery issues).

So, Thunderbolt, a different Android phone, or wait for a new phone that will be out soon?

I hadn't heard about the Bionic being canceled. Bummer if true. The TB is an excellent phone, but it's kinda big especially compared to an iPhone. If you can wait, I would. June is approaching fast and it kicks off the time when lots of new phones will be released. I'm particularly interested in the Incredible 2, assuming it's rootable. We'll see lots of new phones between June - September.

hey ahhh news flash tbolt is the best phone and you can get it at wirefly for 150 today only !!

Good price, but we'll see it down to $130 or less by mid-summer as new phones begin rolling out.

The Droid Incredible 2 should be out on either the 21st or the 28th. It is like the Thunderbolt, spec wise, except with a 4-inch screen and no 4G.

It's smaller, thinner, lighter than the TB. For those who don't care about 4G, it's going to be a hot phone.

In addition, the Incredible 2 is also global capable (GSM and CDMA) vs the TB.

In addition to all of that, it's supposed to get considerably better battery life than the TB. In Engadgets review, they said they wouldn't be suprised if you could get 2 days out of it with moderate usage. Pretty unfathomable from a stock/unrooted TB. Also, it has rotating capacitive buttons! The Sensation or Atrix aint got shit on that! :p

Anyways, I'm waiting for the Xperia Play at the end of the month. But both of these phone should be out this month. Last I read was that the Inc 2 is on the 21st and the Play is on the 28th.

Yeah, those rotating buttons are gonna be cool!

Been using a TB about a month now and freaking love it. The fancy new dual core phones will be out in June but I don't think there will be anything out that can really take advantage of it for a while. So I figured Id get the most powerful phone available now and by the time they can actually use a dual core phone, my upgrade will be up.

I'm waiting for the end of the year before I buy any phones. It seems like there are quite a few good ones that have the potential to release around there.

The TB is a frigging hog man, its nice overall but the weight of that thing just kills it. It would seriously get uncomfortable quick if you surfed a lot on it.

Thunderbolt is awesome but i'ts probably worth waiting another month or two because there are several awesome androids on the Verizon.

Yeah sure it does after sitting with it for hours the last 3 weeks surfing I have yet to be uncomfortable

it's like anything else, you can usually get used to it......doesn't change the fact that if i tried to hold that thing 4-5 hours a day surfing it would become noticeable going from a Fascinate that weighs nearly half as much......it's almost literally a 50% increase in thickness and weight from my Fascinate....and only has an advantage in being 4G capable, something we don't even have here anyways nor would I get good use out of since I am on WiFi all the time, WiFi is more than fast enough for email, web surfing, IRC, etc.....the stuff you do on a phone. I'm not trying to download a 1Gb file a few seconds faster on my phone....makes no sense.

i have a coworker with one, i have used it, it is nice, but it cant do anything other than 4G that my current or any other current handset cant do but yet weighs double.....it just seems like the good model will be the next one where they figure out how to get the same package in half a thickness and weight package.....THEN i would bite because by THEN we would have 4G here and by THEN my contract would be matured

Fuck the moto phones, I loved moto until they showed that they wont ever unlock their phones again after the OG droid. Got a TB and haven't looked back since. Sure the default battery sucks donkey but once I had it on some low voltage kernels and custom roms, I can go a full day on a single charge :)

A whole day? ;)

Just poking fun. I use my Fascinate heavily, and with my usage I am lucky to get 18hours from it. But I also expect it to do a lot too so....

You would wait til July or later to save 20 dollars? Interesting. I bet if you wait til the iphone 5 comes out in the late fall, the price on the tbolt will drop 10 bucks more...

I'm not waiting at all to buy the TB. The TB's $150 price is a temporary sale. In days, it'll be back to $199. So, yeah... were I considering a TB, I'd wait a couple of months to save $70 or more.

Not very complicated for most to understand.

I emailed wirefly, stating that I paid 175 for the phone less than a month ago and its 150 right now.
They promptly informed me they are the #1 online store for cell phones and everything to do with them, then promptly refunded me 25 bux. I would have to agree with them :) I also had the activation fee waived by verizon, So I truely only paid 150.

Ive been using the TBolt since it came out and it is fricking awesome. No other phone can be compared to it regarding "battery life" because it is the only Verizon 4G LTE Phone.
