Basically, first there was ISA, and all cards were ISA and video was built in
Then there were ISA video cards
Then the cards were too fast for ISA, so there came VESA Local Bus
Then PCI came out and VESA Local Bus was rendered obsolete
Then the video cards were too fast for PCI, so that begat AGP
Now PCI and AGP are "Too slow" so we have PCI Express

See the pattern here? Start with an all-purpose expansion slot, go to a dedicated graphics, then a faster all-purpose, then another dedicated graphics.

Anybody want to venture a guess on when there will be a new "dedicated" expansion slot for graphics cards?

Any idea what they will call it when they decide that PCI Express is "Too darned slow for this Nvidia 9999900 2GB GDDDDDR24 Video Card!"?
