Ventrilo Questions (Need Info/Help)

I have a few technical questions about Vent from the perspective of running it that I cannot seem to find answered anywhere else, so I'd appreciate any info/help anyone can give me.

I've never actually run it, though I've used it.

1) It can be run right off of my PC & IP addy with people connecting directly to my Vent server on my system, right?

I know some places offer hosting for Vent servers, but I have it running on my PC now to which I can connect myself, but about to have a few buddies of mine connect tonight to get together and need to be sure.

Note: I've had a few tell me they've done this, and since it's just for myself, my wife and a couple of close friends, it's the only way I'd like to run it. Anyone every have any trouble doing this?

But that leads me to...

2) ...the status page for testing Ventrilo doesn't read my server when inputting my IP and port.

Is that because I'm running it off my system (my PC & IP) and not another server?
It just gives the message: "Ventrilo server is not responding."

3) Setting up passwords for the main server where you login and the first channel doesn't seem to work.

When not logged in as admin, I'd usually have to type the pass to get into any other channel I set up passwords for, which works, but not for logging in to the initial server and first channel created under that.

Last question:

4) How do you organize order of channels?

Every time I create a new one going off main server name ("A"), it puts it above the previous channel, and I cannot rearrange them.

If I click off an existing channel, it becomes a sub-channel of the one I right-clicked on.

How do I create main channels that are beneath one another in the order they were created and/or rearrange them?

Might seem like simple questions, but I've never actually run Vent for myself as a server, and despite my efforts in trying to find answers to these questions, I've found none.

So, any who run/have run Vent, I'd appreciate the help.

Cheers.

P.S.
Main channel under server name has a RED line, not blue, like any other channels created after that. Is this a reason for some of the issues mentioned above? Why is it red?
