Wondering if anyone can help me with this problem im having. My 3200 venice core is running at 2350mhz, my computer, bios, and dxdiag all report it at that rate, but counter strike source has recently been reporting it at 1174mhz, which is reducing my average fps from 115 to 40, can anyone help me with this problem? I am clueless

Sounds like Quiet&Cool to me. Disable it in the bios.

how do you know that CS is right?

How exactly does the number CS reports influence framerate?

Is it possible framerates are dropping (relative to what BTW?) because of some other reason, and CS is wrong?

I find it extremely unlikely that CS is underclocking your CPU all by itself, unless you have some really funky C&Q going on.

whenever i do a stress test in source it tells me how fast my processor is running at reports it at 1175mhz, exactaly half, and if it is running at that then it has a HUGE impact, but my computer hasnt been sluggish at all in anything else but cs source and cs 1.6, which is running under 80fps atm. My computer and everything other program I have used is reporting my cpu speed at 2350mhz. I couldn't find where to disable cool and quiet in the bios, could anyone give me a little help on that? Also I am a bit weary to turn it off because my processor has been running at 40-60C since the day I got it. I must have gotten a bad chip or something

yes, you are absolutely right, you must have a bad chip.

Are you sure the HSF is installed correctly?

What motherboard are you using?

Sounds like cool and quiet to me.

Also, if you can figure out how to overclock the processor, you should also be able to figure out where C&Q is. Maybe drop down the OC, but load temps of 60C seems like user error to me.

Go into the BIOS and disable Cool and Quiet....if that doesn't fix it, then it's just a fluke.

mmm just disabled the cool and quiet, didn't fix it. =( I just have bad luck I guess. You guys think I should order a diff mobo or new processor? I'm really sad :(

what does source tell you if you run it default with no overclock. does it report it at 2000mhz?

Now here's an interesting idea, why not try stock to see what, if anything is broken!
