I recently went to the AMD Tech tour and picked up the A8N-E and a Venice 3200+. So I installed everything. Did a clean install of windows xp x64. Then I proceeded to begin to overlock this bad boy. I managed to get her up to 2.5ghz with an HTT of 250 and a multi of 10x. My ram was running at 209mhz at 2-3-3-7. It would prime for a while without a problem for 24hours.

Then today I decided to install the newest bios update. Everything flashed OK. However on the reboot the machine went to hell. The windows boot would hang midway through, and eventually not even start to boot. I couldnt even boot into the setup CD, so i dropped everything back down to defaults and it kept crashing.

I rolled back the bios to 1001. Did a reinstall of windows. Now, I can boot up at standard speeds (2ghz) but even a mild OC seems to kill the system completely. I cant even hit 2.3 without severe problems. Any ideas on why this is happening. Right now im running at 2ghz HTT of 200 with my ram at 166mhz 2-3-3-7.

Any ideas on why my machine now refuses to overclock at all? I'm stumped right now. Thanks

I am now running the 1005 bios. Booting into windows fine however I still cant OK. Ive been playing with clockgen and I've noticed that when I raise my HTT my PCI clock also goes up. For some reason my motherboard doesnt seem to lock this value.. Could this be causing the problem?

I’m not familiar with that bios, but yes, if you can’t lock your PCI buss that’s a bad thing.

What I am finding is many of the new BIOS’s are optimized for the new dual core CPU’s and may not always be the best for a single core.

Remember, they tell you up front; if the machine is working ok do not flash the bios. I’d probably flash back and wait for a more mature version.

Luck
