Are there any other companies out there that do VCP testing? I had a very bad experience with Pearson Vue and they are not correcting the issue.

Basically, my test was scheduled for 4:00 PM and due to computer issues they didn't start the exam until 6:30. I asked several times during the wait if I could reschedule and the proctor refused, saying that they would get the systems working. I had already made plans to be somewhere at 8:00 PM (4 hours after the test was supposed to start), which caused me to have to rush through the test.

Now Pearson Vue is claiming that because I finished the exam, there isn't anything they can do. I've explained that the proctor left me with no options and they still refuse to fix the issue, citing that I completed the exam. That is like saying I "let" someone mug me because I didn't stop them :rolleyes:

As this was my first testing experience with them, I have to say that it doesn't make me want to use them again....
 
Nope. Done through Vue only... They don't have great service. Once they booked me for an exam at a place that doesn't exist anymore and I have yet to see a credit for that.
 
Lovely. I'll get reimbursed from work for taking it again since this was with a free voucher for my VCP course, so it isn't a money issue. At this point it is more of an acknowledgement issue. They can see that the test started 2-1/2 hours late, they can see that the proctor didn't follow procedures for opening a trouble ticket for the computer delay, yet they are saying it is "she said/he said" that they wouldn't let me reschedule. I can give them details on what the system problems were and the resolution steps they went through, but my word on the subject isn't worth squat. Not only that but they send some canned response email that they wouldn't compensate me without even calling me or getting my side. I had to call and ask to speak to the perso. That emailed me directly. Obviously they have never heard of customer service.

Their actual advice to me was that I should have just walked out and refused to take the test :rolleyes: yeah, like they wouldn't have refused to refund me in that case too.

I'm concerned that VMWare would continue to use them as their only testing partner with their lack of customer support...
 
Actually, you should have refused it. They would have refunded you. Once you take it..it's done. VMware has to be paid and all that. So next time if there is a problem just refuse it.
 
That sucks. Oh well, last thing on my to-do list for it is to contact our VMWare rep. Not that I expect her to do anying to make up for their incompetence, but just to pass up the chain my displeasure with Pearson Vue as their testing partner.....
 
Close.. 270-something :) I managed to get a lot of questions in my weakest areas. Namely SAN storage, vAPP, and troubleshooting.

Overall I think the test was pretty well spread out over the topics. I did notice that a lot of the questions were practically word for word from the testking brain dumps, but I was trying to do the right thing and study from the whitepapers instead of just memorizing the questions/answers from the sample tests...

Speaking of VCP, my question is : Is 5 days training is really mandatory to take the exam and get the cert or you could just do the exam like MS certs without the 5 days training (self training and braindumps etc) ??
 
I had bad experiences with Prometric and Pearson Vue. It depends on the testing centre, some are great some are total and utter shit.

As for the VCP training I think its really worth it. I had to bump mine from the 26th untill the 14th. I didn't feel I was ready and I didn't feel like blowing 400 dollars. 225 and 140 for a stupid ferry and at least 20 bucks for gas.
 
Since taking a vmWare course is the only way to get VCP certification,
I am glad to see someone say it is worth it - especially since I am paying out of pocket.
Sure am sorry I missed the buy one get one half off sale :(

I signed up for VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage V5.0
I am debating on signing up for Troubleshooting V4.x or waiting until a V5.0
course is available.

More on topic: I had a bad experience at a testing center when I tried to recertify CCNA.
We waited for hours for the test system to come back online - never did.
I did not have to jump through hoops though .... a couple of weeks passed and
someone called me back to reschedule my test. So in my case, they did what I consider
to be the right thing: They allowed me to retest without charge.
 
Just thought I would update and say that I love having a VMWare TAM (technical account manager) working with our company. After contacting her with the situation, she quickly got in touch with a Senior Program Manager for Technical Certifications at VMWare. He in turn worked with VMWare's Program Manager at Pearson Vue and said I should recieve a free "retake" from Pearson Vue within the next couple days.

At least VMWare acknowledged that what occured was not right which was all I originally asked of Pearson Vue... which they seemed incapable of admitting to on their own :rolleyes: The free retake voucher is just "icing on the cake" in my opinion, as I never asked for that in the first place.

Now I'll sit back and see how long it takes for Pearson Vue to contact me... and I'll make sure to use one of their more "IT-focused" faclities for the retake...

14th is the day. I am doing ok on the practice stuff but that means nothing.
 
Due to major work projects, real life, and general procrastination... it took way to long to be able to find time to study some more and retake the exam. 3 months later though.... and I passed with a score of 330 :) I'm so glad to get that stress off my shoulders, especially since getting a certification was on my performance evaluation for this year at work!

And just to give my two cents... if you have to retake the exam, don't wait as long as I did. Felt like I was having to start from scratch on studying :(

Now go give myself the holidays to relax before starting my studying for the VCP 5 so I can pass it before the end of February when they will require us to take the new course. If anyone has any advice on what to really focus on, I'm all ears. Gonna probably set up a vSphere 5 eval box to take it for a spin...
 
I'm signed up for the CCC&TI ICM5.0 course in January and can't wait. If you're moving from 4 to 5, I'd suggest you hit the What's New stuff for vSphere 5 and start focusing efforts on learning that. The rest should carry over decently. Just go through the blueprint and read the official docs. Should be good enough to get past it. That's what I'm doing in the mean time and note taking before the class. I want to take the exam right after the class if not sooner.
 
Congrats! I need to get busy on the v5 test as well... I don't really want to take a class again.
 
After the course I must have put in at least 120 more hours of my time studying. Most important, Storage, Networking, Security I found.
