I have a P4 3.4C CPU with a Vapochill LS and im stable at 4.2GHZ with 1.62vcore. I want to go higher and i have pushed it to 4.4GHZ Unstable with 1.7vcore. How much higher should i keep pushing before its going to screw my Mobo up?

Thanks in advance!

Well, some of the earlier chips were prone to SNDS (sudden northwood death syndrome, chips randomly dying when at 1.7 volts or greater), but I don't think the newer ones are as bad. Still, I wouldn't go much higher than 1.7...

Edit: I see you have phase change cooling... That might make things a little different, not sure

now buy some of the earlier chips are you refering to the 3.4C's or not?

No, by earlier chips I mean the 400 mhZ FSB versions, and some of the 533 mhZ FSB versons. I don't think the problem is nearly as bad with the newer processors (the 800 mhZ fsb processors)

1.7V should be fine 24/7. Never heard of any problems with it... Especially on phasechange.
I heard they can still randomly die at 1.75V or higher.

i just want to see if this chip can make it to 4.5 stable or not and get into windows. If i just want to look and change the Vcore back will that do any damage

you have vapo i think you can afford a dead chip ;)

SDS only happens when you run it day to day. just trying to see if itll boot into winders will be fine.

I don't think its right to judge someone like that. Saying since i have money to buy a Vapo im loaded. I saved for quite a while and don't want anything to happen to my computer. But thanks for the input :)

Good luck man...

I know what you mean. People look at my computer and think im a millionaire or something. What they don't know is how much time I spend on it all. haha. Some people drink and party all the time. Some people buy shit for their cars. Some people are into RC cars.

I blow all my money on computer shit. :)

hey do you work for ATI or something??? i just noticed that you have a X800XT in your comp. where did you get that being they have released them yet??? If you can i would like to get one!!!

too high is when you release the magic smoke contained in the hardware
max i would go is 1.75 but try and stay under that

Thank you i will do that

phaze change or not personally I wouldnt go over 1.7v....even 1.7v would scare me.
Its the electromigration that kills the chips not the heat....so yes even under phaze change you could still kill your chip pretty quick.
Now just trying to see if itll get into windows..sure go for it..but I dont think Id reccomend that setting permanently.

yet another reason why I preffer AMD

And what reason would that be? because P4's can't go over certain Voltage. Good for you. But at least P4's can lower there MHZ if there over heating to save its self where as AMD's just burn up

The reason he says that is AMDs cores can take alot more juice than intels can befor they die off. 1.7 or 1.75 I forget right off is the max a P4 will go before you kill it. Where as an AMD chip (im talking barton here) Will take a max of 2.15v according to AMD...My self ive been running a 2500+ barton at 2.0v since it was released what 2 years ago? And it is still running strong.
Actually now as long as the users sets it up. once you hit a certain temp your system will shut down on AMD rigs.

If you let your shit burn up... then you must not be aware of a bios setting that will shut down the comp if a certain temp is reached eh?

I don't want my processor telling me what is a safe speed to run at. All that automatic BS saves idiots money by keeping them from frying their chips, and is a PITA for everyone else.
