vCore is for the CPU right?

Right.......? Because in my motherboard I set my vCore to 1.2875 or something. I'm running Orthos now and I opened CPU-Z and the voltage is jumping all over the place from 1.23 to 1.28 etc.


What gives? :confused:
 
That's probably Vdroop you are experiencing.
Often, you don't get the voltage you have set in the BIOS when you get in windows.
Additionally, under load some (anyone can confirm if that's for certain chipsets only?) motherboards will not be able to sustain the voltage.
 
So would it make sense to just leave the vcore at Auto? I'd rather not, because I finally got my computer to go stable for a few days of gaming and stressing at 2.93ghz and about 1.28 or something voltage.
 
There is voltage droop designed into the Intel platforms and it is there for a reason. If you don't agree with the Intel engineers then there are mods you can do on some motherboards to reduce the amount of core voltage droop.

What you set it at in the bios is usually less then what you will end up with when idle in Windows and it will drop some more when you are at full load running Orthos. No big deal really. Set it to whatever number you have to in the bios so your are running stable. Avoid using the AUTO setting because some motherboards like my Asus P5B Deluxe get absolutely stupid with additional voltage when you're overclocking which creates a huge amount of heat.
