Hey everyone ive finally got around to building another rig after 4 years (thanks credit!!!) anyhow i am going to modify my case slightly with that some questions.

My friend is going to cut the inside front to hold (2)80mm fans or (2)92MM fans
Gonna put to more fans on the side panel and change the back fan to something with a lil more omph.

My question however is I mentioned I wanted him to put a hole on the top so I could put another fan 120mm or something, he told me it was a stupid Idea because there would be a hotspot or deadspot or something spot (he bitches me out when I asked about a top fan)

So the question is will putting a top Fan on that case be a detriment?

and lastly my final question is in regards to a military switch ever since I saw this thing I wanted to put that on a case the problem I am having is I am told "By same friend" that putting a military switch is stupid and will be a bad idea because If I need to hold down the power button to power of the PC I wont have that option because its just a basic on and off switch.

So what I was wondering if I could use a military switch and somehow put a second push button somewhere on the system for if the problem arises and I need to hold down a button to shut down the case.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you talking about turning off a fan? Turning off the computer? Turning off some kind of lighting effect inside the case? I've no idea at all what you're refering to? Do you mean can you replace the front power switch with a military style switch? Gotta be more specific and refer to excactly what you're planning if you want suggestions.

Your question made some kind of reference to holding down the switch because a military style switch is a "basic on and off switch." What other kind of switch is there for turning on/off a computer. The thing you're looking for is a "momentarily closed" switch. If you use a latching switch you're going to have problems with resets unless you flip the switch really quickly then immediately switch it off. The power switch of a computer is only closed while you're pressing it.

Secondly, yes, fans have "dead spots" in their airflow. It's located right below the hub. It shouldn't be a factor in a blowhole mount unless you're trying to directly cool something (like a HSU). The only negative to adding a fan to a case is added noise.

I hope you're just misquoting your friend, otherwise, don't listen to a thing he says.
 
Sorry if that made little sense but you got the gist of what I was trying to say

I wanted to put a milatry switch for the power button, but since the switch is only (on/off) I was worried about those times when you have to hold down the power button in order to get the sucker to turn off.

Just be certain the switch you get is a "momentary" switch. A switch like this probably won't work since I don't think it's momentary. Looks more like a "latching" switch.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen too many "military style" switches that aren't.
 
Me either, they seem to mostly be used as "arming" switches for the real power buttons. Still cool in use, but not very practical.
 
someone posted a shematic earlier to make a military switch useable. lemme find it.

there are 2 versions. the first allows you to keep the switch on while you are using the computer, but to power down you have to switch it off and back on agein.

i thought that this was stupid, so i came up with a second circut that turns teh comp on when you flip the switch up and turns the comp off when you flip it down:

if you had a SPDT switch it would simplyfy things greatly, but this was working under the constriction of a single SPST toggle.

i dont know exactally what he ment but he might be saying its pointless because you would have 2 80's or 92's for intake and a 120 and 80 for out take
lets say the 80's push 32cfm
and 120 is 60cfm
so you have 64cfm intake and 92cfm outtake the intakes cannot keep up with the need for air that is being desposed of by the outtake so there fore it is a waste

moral
you want the cfm of the intake fans as close to = to the outtake as you can get you can mix and match the 120 and 80 with the 2 80's but just make sure the intake is = to the outtake
