Hey guys, I bought a 9800 Pro last year, long ago, and now they're half the price, with 9800XT being cheaper than what I paid for my card. Kinda pissed at this, I've decided to get into overclocking this thing.. :)

I have a few basic overclocking questions:

- What is the best overclocking program?

I've only used Rage 3D Tweak.. and by a friend's recommendation, I clocked my Sapphire Radeon 9800 PRO to 420/360 .. I started getting blue screens of death, so ever since then I left my speeds at default. And I kinda developed a fear of OCing :p

- What are some good alternative (air) core cooling/mem cooling methods?

I'm not looking into water cooling my videocard at the moment, and I've only heard of the "Vantec Iceberq4" as an alternative air cooling solution, and BGA Ramsinks. Are there any very good ones to reccommend? Or is it best to put a stock P4 Heatsink? I have my stock 3.0c heatsink lying around, and if someone posted some tutorials I may even consider doing that. If it isnt too dangerous (or hard), that is :)

- What is the average overclock on a a 9800 Pro 128mb with stock cooling (and no ramsinks)?

- What is the deal with putting a new BIOS on my 9800 Pro? I've seen the "9800XT Bios" thing that people are talking about, but can't seem to derive from everyone's post whether or not it is a good thing to do. Also, if I do flash to the XT 128MB Bios, is my 9800 pro stock cooling sufficient?

- What are some good tutorial sites for oc'ing videocards?
I've been thinking of removing my stock HSF and putting some Arctic Silver on it, but i'm hearing about having to remove a metal shim with a razor blade and it sounds tough. I'd like to have a tutorial site that can teach me how to do these mods if I do decide to do them.

Thanks guys and thats all for now. Hopefully your answers can help other noobs who are wondering the same things as well. :)

most of these you can find if you do a search.. hate to be blunt about it.. :p

1. I use the Overclocker with Omega drivers (try that if you use regular Catalyst).

2. You can use old heatsinks.. cut them in half (use wahtever..) and use good adhesive/frag tape to attach to ramsinks.. (good cheaper way of cooling.. sometimes more efficient than buying BGA's for $20 bucks.

Personally I don't wanna spend 40 bucks for the Zalman's.. etc.. there big.. there bulky.. and I'd rather put something together by myself..

3. Search the forum.. tons of posts.

4. New bios's provide higher default overclocks (hence a non-pro can be flashed to a PRO card hence.. the clock speed is increased and the comp fooled into thinking its a pro card).

5. www.google.com is your friend ;)

research more.. you'll learn a lot more by searching than by asking..
