I know it's kind of fancy but I recall read something about variable GPU core speed; the core stays at low frequency when doing 2D but turns high when 3D game (when lots of horsepower are needed). The reason I'm thinking about this is we can certainly cut noise down by using vf700, but if the core came with variable speeds, then the heat dissipation during music and movie playing are much less hence less noise, similar to the pentium M motif. In games, a little noise are fine; my speaker is loud enough that I won't pay attention to the noise during games (btw, who would game with no sound?).
I don't care about changing hsf if I have to, but I'd rather not. So if the GPU core has variable speed, then wouldn't it be cool? Can someone name a few cards that does that?
