Vapochill LS....creative mounting idea.....

I was just wondering here, have any of you dismantled your LS to get the dimensions of the rad and compressor and all? The reason I'm asking is because next year I wanna be picking up the LS to show my 3.4E some lovin'...but instead of throwing it UNDER a case I had a better idea, just not sure if it'd work.

What I wanna do is pick up a Lian-Li V1200, mount my HDD in a 5.25" bay....and install the contents of the Vapochill LS in the bottom 2/3 of the case that are normally devoted to those two "sections" of hard drive rails.

The reason I wanna try and make it fit down there is I'm still gonna be leaving my NB and XT-PE on h2O.....and I wanna keep the Vapo out of the way if I can.....and fitting it in the bottom section of the V1200 seems like the best solution....if it'll fit.

I have yet to see anyone actually DO that.....but if I could get the length, width, and height of the different components in the LS and how much room they'd take up sitting side by side that'd be great.

I know that it shouldnt be too wide, as the Vapo can normally fit under a Lian-Li, which is 8" wide.....so as long as there's enough depth in the case (from front to back) and the lower HDD "section" between the front of the case and the PSU is tall enough I should be good to go.

Let me know what you guys think of the idea....and/or any measurements you can get for me.

EDIT: I just also realised that there's a gap in the V1200 getween those hard drive "cages" and the bottom 5.25" bay, so I guess if I really had to I could just completely cut out those hard drive cages and I figure then I WOULD be good to go.

I'd be cutting/adding my own window, but it wouldn't be hard at all to just have the window centrally located over the mobo...that way if I do completely cut out those HDD cages at the bottom you won't see the Vapochill just sittin there.

I was pretty sure that the Vapo and Prommies both used a single 120mm fan on their rads...so i figured that this way I could just mount the rad directly to the fron intake and turn it around to blow out the front of the case.

If I'm gonna cut out those "cages" I dont see any reason why it wouldn't work....but any input is still much appreciated.

I know that you can fit a VapoChill LS in a CoolerMaster Stacker case, as Chilly1 is modding one right now that he fit a whole unit in.

I'm not sure if one will fit in a Lian-Li though, what are the dimensions of the bottom area? My only concern would be heat build-up in that tight area, and it emitting into the mobo area.

I suppose so, but what I was thinking of doing was making sure the the bottom "portion" of the case is sealed off first, and while I'll have a fully mesh side panel "window" showing the mobo.....I could cut a seperate mesh window in the panel over that bottom section of the case, so that the heat could/would just radiate out of the case.

I'm currently looking at also just buying another YY-0221 cube server case from Yeong Yang, and having the Vapo install inside it. Here's a review of the case first off. What I could quite easily do is cut up (mod) the "drive side" of the case, removing all but the top hard drive "shelf" and cutting out the bottom 2/3 of the 5.25" bay bracket, so that I'd have room to (hopefully) have the Vapo sitting in there. Then on the other side of the case I could VERY easily switch to using a fillpoint for the h2O, and place that in the top of the case, and hook my DTek Pro heatercore to the front 120mm fan and have the bezel cut out so the fan would blow out of the case. With the h2O on one side the the Vapo on the other I think it'd look pretty fricken cool, especially if I was able to wire it up clean enough and end up putting a mesh window on the top, and both side panels, showing off the two cooling systems.

What do you guys think? The YY-0221 would actually be cheaper for me to pick up, and if I was to install those mesh windows and then get the entire inside/outside of the case painted black i think it'd look pretty cool, really plain and simple....but oh so sexy.

I'm more set on teh cube right now, because it's different, woudl end up looking nicer (imo) and the cube fits perfectly under the right drawer under my desk....and i mean perfectly.....freeing up a LOT of deskspace.

I like the idea of the Cube, it sounds very original...but will still be pretty difficult to do.

You'll have to extend the cooling hose, as it won't reach the CPU if you install the unit on one side. Making the bends and curves will be pretty tuff, espcially with everything in the case. I'm really not sure how you would route the hose, as it wouldn't fit over the top, and going around the side would be tricky to say the least. I would love to see it done, as it would require alot of work and custom work on the Vapo Unit.

I would love to install my Vapo in the Stacker case, but I switch systems with it so much. I don't want to be limited to just using one case. Being a stand-alone now, all I have to do is disconnect and reconnect it somewhere else.

Well, I'm now looking at picking up a MachII instead of the Vapochill LS, based on price. I know that the MachII ST doesn't have the LCD, but you can still monitor the temps from within windows via the same sort of software right? And a second thing, I was pretty sure that the (main) difference between the MachII GT and the regular MachII was that the GT comes pre-gassed with r404, a slightly better refridgerant then what's in the regular MachII....which I THINK is r134.....but can't remember. If the ST is going to provide me with the same cooling as the regular MachII then I'd much rather go that route.....as I can get a MachII ST for $750 CDN after tax/shipping....whereas the Vapochill LS would end up costing me just short of $1200.....and that $450 would be more then enough to pay for the cube, so you see where I'm coming from here.

I'm going to be posting up a thread on this also, but because I'd be modding the Vapo/Prommy into the cube I really dont care about the LCD, but I'm moreso concerned with the capabilities of the unit itself.
