What kind of fan do you think will work better then an 80mm Vantec Tornado at cooling?

Is the 92mm Tornado going to make that much of a difference with my heatsink. The 80mm doesn't cover all of my heatsink so I was thinking I should probably get the 92mm so it would.

I'm getting use to the noise level.

If you can stand the noise w/the 80, then go for the 92. It's got a higher dba rating, but would think it'd be lower pitched so that'd compensate. Never had an 80mm version though, so can't say.

I agree with llsardonicll, if you can stand the sound of the 80mm fan go with the 92mm. And yes the 92mm would be a bit better considering the more airflow it will give.:D

Ok, either of you know a good place to get them? The places I found were canadian. I need US.

Having a screamer on your hsf is not that bad. If you have a moderate output 120 in your case you can just barely hear the 80 over the 120. It not being directly attached to a hole in the case probably cuts down on the sound.

I do remember the delta 60mm screamers being nearly unbearable on a hsf. It may be a pitch thing like said above.

My friend had a 92mm tornado and he couldn't stand the noise, so he hooked it up to the fan only molex coming off his Antec True PS, he knew he wasn't supposed to do that for the CPU fan but he tried it. Worked great! It was quiet, and at idle it ran only 1 or 2 degrees hotter, at load only about 3 degrees hotter.

Well, I got the 92mm version, I like it more because it's deeper then the 80mm so it doesn't scream. But the temps aren't as great. I'm idling at about 40-41c in the bios. Who knows maybe I'll attempt to have both running in there.

Talk about moving air.

I might try it to see how much cooler I could get the CPU. and If I could get it into the mid 30's then I'd be happy and then hide the machine to reduce the noise. :)

I Twin 80mm and a 92mm in one of my old rigs. I had them hooked up to a vantec fan controller. My god were they loud even turned all the way down! I could hear them in my garage if they were turned all the way on full! I dont know how anybody could ever stand the noise of a tornado...if you can more power to you and totally go for the 92mm!

Hide the machine where, on the other side of the house. Man those volcanos are loud. Mine makes a good hovercraft.

I can't remember who sells them, but there are ducts available to mount the fan a little further off the HS. The benefit here is that you don't have that "dead spot" right in the middle of the fan and the fan will run a bit quieter with the blades not quite so obstructed. (Anyone who has a tornado and has slightly blocked it knows what I'm talking about) I had 3 Tornados in my case at one point, 1 92 and 2 80s. one of the 80s was mounted directly to a Swifty HS and it was by far the noisiest of the 3 fans. If you want to do a little experiment, stretch a T-shirt over a tornado while its running full blast and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

I do know exactly what you're talking about! It may help but it will still be so loud you have to constantly play music or a game with the speakers cranked up to bear it. I dont think I'll ever use a tornado fan again, if I need extreme cooling I am sticking to water cooling hehe.
