Hey guys, does anyone of you uses vantec tornado fan?? if so then please could you tell me how to connect it to the fan controller? i have a 92mm vantec tornado fan and it has a seperate cable attached to it which i assume is the cable for speed control but i have tried it with several fan controllers (coolermaster,nexus,sunbeam etc.) but none of them works. Now i think that something might be wrong with the wire as it has a 3-pin connector but only one measly little wire is going through 1 of the pins of the 3. Refer to the pic below. could it be that the fans which have an option to control speed has 3 wires passing through all 3 pins of the connector? I really need to know how to control the speed of these fans, any help would be appreciated.

That yellow wire is only the speed sense wire, it only tells your motherboard how fast the fan is spinning. You need the red & black wires to go into the fan controller. Depending on the power draw of the tornado, and what the limits of your fan controller are, you could cut off the molex connector, and splice all three wires into a three pin fan connector so you could plug it into your fan controller. Or, you could get a fan controller that accepts four pin molex connectors, or just use the 7v trick on the fan.

err..what 7v trick? :rolleyes:

it has a seprate power connector , i would still be needing that? as in , if i manage to connect all three wires through the 3 pin connector, then would the power be provided through the fan controller as well?

Yes, the fan controller is what provides the fan with power. The fan controller adjusts the power output to the fan, which controls fan speed. So, if you did manage to splice the 3 wires into a 3 pin you can just plug it into the fan controller and voila!
 
Definitely check the specs on the fan controller. My bro tried a tornado on his (no idea what brand/model controller) and it killed it. They are some power hungry fans.

The 7v trick that was mentioned consists of hooking up the fans red [+] wire to the red +12v on the molex plug and the fans's black [-] wire to the yellow +5v on the molex.
