ok i have a vantec stealth 520 w power supply. i have a bfg geforce 6800 ultra oc, 3500+ athlon xp overclocked to 2.55 ghz and 2 512 sticks of corsair ddr memory. 2-2-2-5 sticks overclocked. ayway i have hard drives/cdrom drives, and tons of fans. the reason im telling you all of this is because with all this stuff running my power supplies fans dont even run!!!! all three fans are off. There is a switch on the back but no matter which one i turn it to (1,2,or 3) none of the fans come on. Now the wierd thing is the powersupply doesnt even get hot or warm for that matter. now my room is pretty kool, but i would figure the fans would always run for cooling purposes. Is it normal for them not to run even if its really kool in the room? it detects the inside of my case at about 29 degree's C. i just want to make sure i dont have a bad power supply? any idea's? ill check it again under a heavy gaming session but thought it run it past you guys on the forum.

From thier web site all it says in regards to fans not spinning; is to be sure the lo/med/auto settings are not set "in-between" And that's all it said. Not very much I'm afraid. You might want to get in-touch with them.

You probably should RMA it or something. The fans should spin, although I don't feel much air getting moved around by them.

BTW, the 3 switch positions are, in no order, "High, Auto, Low". I don't know the order because I don't see a difference between them...

kool, it looks like im gonna have to RMA it. The funny thing is i know it worked before cause i could feel it pushing out air. For some reason tho it looks like it stopped for no reason at all. I know for a fact im not in the middle of a setting cause ive tried it so many times. I ordered it fron new egg about 2 months ago, would my warranty be with them or with vantec?

am i gonna have to ship it back and be power supplyless for 2 weeks 8(

Is it aiight to use for the time being with doom 3? the only other power supply i have is the one in my older rig and its only 320 w (cheapo) so i dont think its gonna handle my hardware (6800 ultra)

I think for the first 30 days, NewEgg will handle the warrenty - for retail products. OEM products are warrented by NewEgg for their warrenty time.

So it looks like you'll have to go through Vantec. But, if you go to NewEgg.com, you can try the RMA/refund thing on that order and see if it will let you get a replacement for your PSU. If not, you won't be able to select it, and Vantec will be where to go for the service.

Or you could dissassemble the PSU (voiding warrenty) and, as Vertigo Acid said, bring the fans right to the 12 volt rail. Some knowledge in electronics is recommended, as well as knowing warrenty would be voided by doing this...

well its kinda funny but it is past the 30 day mark (its been about 40 days) anyway went to newegg site and they approved my RMA and gave me an RMA # and everything.

Gotta love newegg.

well another interesting thing happend. I contacted vantec before i tried the newegg thing. Vantec is going to cross ship me a new PSU. they will ship it to me, and as long as i send them the one without working fans within 30 days they will be happy 8)

no down time 8)
