I am interested in purchasing a new HSF for my radeon 9500pro and was wondering which one was better. If you have any other suggestions, they would be appreciated.

crystal orb has higher cfm and a bit louder, vantec is pure copper (if u get the pure copper one that is) and like 3.5cfm, very quiet.

performance wise its close, but the crystol orb will just edge out because of the higher cfm

i run a vantec myself....

Something like a Zalman heatpipe or a GIANT 2 would be better for overclocking and cost about the same.

Wrong wrong wrong!!

The Iceberq4 is FAR superior to the COrb. Even the original Iceberq came close, but the Iceberq4 improves greatly on that design.

The Iceberq4 has far more surface area, with a thin fin design. Having used both, I can easily say that the reason the Iceberq has less CFMs is it doesn't need as many. The COrb is an old, venerable design but it really doesn't compare to almost any of the newer solutions. It's fairly noisy, doesn't use modern design practices, and is much larger and bulkier than it needs to be.

The only reason that the COrb got so popular was that it was really the only solution of that type around then.

If you really need GREAT cooling, then there are plenty of other designs that will serve you better, like the TT Giant, Zalman, VGA Silencer.

Never base your decisions based on the numbers alone.
My Personal recommendation: Iceberq4 (if you want a compact, but good cooler) or VGA Silencer (if you want a superb cooling regardless of size).

Giant III or VGA Silencer (you can buy em at xoxide now :))

I would wait to see the Giant 3 benchies, I c'mon, ITS HUGE!

Don´t get the Crystal Orbs. It´s Thermaltake and far from reliable. I have had two and one died a premature death. I actually sold a video card with one on it, and it died after he had used it 1 month.

Not fun selling such a video card :( Have heard other who had issues with this also.

Zalman heatpipe pawns Giant 3. I don´t get the Giant 3. If you want to put a fan on it it´s much better getting a fanarm and 120 mm fan blowing on it. Much quiter to if you 7 volt it and it still pull a lot more air and over the hole heatpipe and between.

i had the iceberq 4 for a day....it didnt do a damn thing better then the stock hsf and it didnt fit very well on the chip (9800 Pro)

i have the vga silencer now and im very content

The GiantIII is loud as hell with that little 9k RPM blower. The Zalman and the VGA Silencer are both better.

good decision!

zalman is a great company :) (except the headphones wtf were they thinking!)

I have zalman heatpipe on my 9800 256 ddr2, zalman 7000 cpu cooler and their 400w psu. i have been buying their stuff so long i have 2 p3 "flower" heatsinks i will make the most sexay gainclone amp with :)

and its QUIET!
