ok my question is do i really need to remove the shim before installing this new hsf? i've heard sum ppl say they left it on and it's fine and sum say it fried their card. also wut are the downsides if i took the shim off? can the core b easily cracked ?
 
I took mine off real easy just use dental floss just start in the corner. if you dont you will need to put more articsilver on there than you should to get a good contact with the vpu but it will still work just not as good. try the dental floss nothing will work better
 
I didn't remove the shim while installing my iceberg4. And I haven't had any problems. Hope that helps.
 
you wont break the core with dental floss. its a little tough right when you start but once you get the first corner the rest will come up easy
 
nonono not wit the floss i mean will it break easily wit just the hsf? i lan alot and i dont want my gpu being crushed by a hsf
 
Look at your card from the side. Is the core higher, lower or almost at the exact same level as the shim? If higher or same level, then leave the shim on. :)
 
slightly lower but i just added alot of thermal grease and it's working fine.... comp has been on for 24 hour straight still no artifacting when i play games so i guess it's ok, heatsink gets hot so i know it's makin contact
