VANTEC Fan controller HELP!?

Hey guys i just got my Vantec 4 channel fan controller. And it didnt come with instructions on how to hook it up. Im kinda new to the whole 'modding' thing and need to know how to hook this thing up

How in the heck do i get cables long enuff to reach from the back case fans to the 5.25 drive bay?? Also can i use 1 power cable and just train all 4 fans from one power cable or does that mess up the PSU or anything? Also the case fans i have were the thermaltake smart fans that came with knobs to turn to adj. the fan speed. How do i make it so I can controll it with the vantec?? PLEASE give me any suggestions or comments or anything at all. I would really appriciate it. Thanks!
 
You hook up 1-2 fans to each channel....as in Knob....

Yes it take 1 molex power connector to control all the fans.

To use any fan with it, just plug the fans power on any of the channels, it will control any fan you put on it.

Q: The product description states that the NXP-201/205 can handle up to 18W per channel. Why does it advise not to use more than one fan per channel?
A: Most people are unaware of the wattage their fans require. Theoretically, you may use more than one fan per channel on the NXP-201/205, as long as the combined wattage is less than 18W. However, please note that high CFM fans, such as our Tornado, require more than 9W. Thus, combining two on one channel will eclipse the 18W threshold.


Q: Can I use the NXP-201/205 with a fan that has a fan controller already hard-wired to it?
A: Yes. However, make sure to leave the hard-wired fan controller set to MAX.

How would I hook up more than one fan per channel??? Cuz that would be great if i could then i could have my 2 back exhaust fans controlled by one knob and my 2 front intake fans controlled by another knob.

Another question i had was if i could control my cpu fan on this device also? I have the Thermaltake Venus 12. Its a HEAFTY HS/F Loud as hell and cools really well. But id rather be able to controll all of them by the vantec. Thanks for your help though. I appriciate it :)

It also recommends NOT to use thermal/physically controlled fans with the Vantec. LOL which is all my case fans. Think this might screw things up?
 
Do NOT try to control your CPU fan with this controller! You risk damaging your CPU! :eek:
The controller is able to turn a fan completely off, something you do NOT want to do with a CPU fan.

Adjustable fans can be controlled by the Vantec but as I quoted above, you must set the fan to max in order for it to work properly.

As for multiple fans per channel....you just need to piggy back the fans together and re-read what I quoted above. :cool:
 
i don't know what model you have but i think Gunz is wrong the nxp201/205 will not turn the fan off. i have a NXP-201 and at its lowest setting it is about 7 volts even very "stall happy" fans can run at that, most fans i have will run to 5 volt or less one thing to make sure is that if you use it on you cpu that the decrease in air flow is still able to cool the heatsink.

j/k but, in this case I'm not wrong, however, Vantec may be wrong because I got every single bit of what I posted from their site based off the nxp201/205. I would rather err on the side of not screwing up my components either way. :cool:
 
Okay well with my smart fans got hooked up before i read to set them at FULL speed before hooking them up to the vantec. Im not sure what they were set at before but its working just fine I can controll 2 fans with one knob on the vantec its great. And lemmie tell you these fans PUMP out air!!! My case temp is at 25c. Lovin it.

Also about the CPU fan its a venus 12 wich is an adjustable fan in itself. It came with its on 2.5 bay device with a knob and everything. It would be nice to have one device to controll everything but who knows. So could i hook it up to the Vantec or is it not recommended? And if not could I get some explanation why... Just so I could understand it a bit better. Thanks!

Q: Why can’t I use the NXP-201/205 with my CPU fan?
A: The NXP-201/205 can control the fan itself without issue. However, if the user should unknowingly set the fan speed too low, system could overheat. This is why we do not recommend it.

You can hook the CPU fan to the Vantec but they recommend NOT doing that.
 
Yes but If I keep it at full speed then I have nothing to worry about right?
 
Im noticing since Im daisy chaining 2 fans together on ONE channel at the lowest setting one fan looks like its going faster than the other. Just might be my eyes playing a trick on me but is this unusual? and if it is how should I fix this???
