Hi,
I have a Vantec-3 SATA enclosure with a Western Digital 500GB drive in it. It's connected to my computer using the eSata connector to my Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard. I did have to set the HD as a SATA 1 drive. Everything seems to works fine. I just have 2 questions:
1) When my computer is on and the external drive is powered on afterwards, is it normal for XP to freeze/pause for a few seconds until the drive is active? By freeze, I mean I can't do anything, mouse is frozen...it's just a pause for about 2 seconds. Is this normal? Or is there something I can do to get rid of the pause?
2) because it's connected with eSATA and not USB, I do not see it in the "Safely Remove Hardware". Is it ok for me to be turning off the drive when I'm not doing any disk access to it? I've been doing that and everything seems to be fine for now but it makes me nervous.
