Anyone still playing Vanguard? A buddy at work said the graphics were very impressive and hes enjoying it a bit. How is it? Good game? I know when it came out there were a lot of issues, how is it now?

Is it worth checking out?

I looked here, and saw a lot of people talking about how much it sucked when it first came out, I was wondering -- How is it now?

Thanks :)

not sure, but i know i saw the collectors edition box at target for 11 dollars if you wanted to ty it :p

Vanguard is starting to recover from the launch issues and the player base has actually started to grow over the last few months. Game content was not finished, many bugs hurt all aspects of the game, and the targeted hardware just wasn't out yet, the game launched about a year early in all reality.

The graphics in VG are great for most things but suck in a few like faces which were cut down from unlimited custom settings to a few presets but the customization will be back in july. This was to fix issues they had with helms and heads/ears/tusks poking out of the helm.

If you are into raiding sadly their are not that many raid targets or zones yet APW being the only true raid zone but its not an easy place to burn through, it took the best guilds several months to complete. They are working on more raid content for the game but they are trying to balance raid content and gear so the mudflation issues of Everquest and World of Warcraft are not a problem down the line.

Leveling solo can be done but it is a bit slow after 15 or so. You are much better off grouping with a few people as the exp bonus more then makes up for the exp split of the group. If you really wanted to you could do 1-50 in a month. On release I did 1-50 in 2 months playing 3-4 hours a day.

As far as I was talking about gaming hardware, I would suggest a C2D 2.4+ghz proc, 4gb of ram, and a 8800GT, this is not a real world recommended spec, this is a real world min requirement. If you are running anything under a 8800GT then you will have to turn down the texture quality and resolution, this game uses a TON of textures and poly's to do max settings, 1920x1200, and get good FPS the 8800 Ultra still has problems, this game is not very SLI friendly, you might gain 10fps on a SLI of 2x 8800GT's.

What does the game focus on? PVP? PVE?

Vanguard is 90% pve, the games pvp system is not all that hot, some classes are way over powered. If you want a pvp game go play WoW.

skip Vanguard and play age of conan.. its 100 times better.

if you are going to play V try the shaman, played a goblin shaman for a while and did pretty well solo.

I like PVE myself, I remember watching videos of the game pre-release and being very impressed. How would you say it looks compared to today's games?

I think I am becoming the [H] Vanguard Fanboi. Everytime it comes up as a topic I feel like I have to say something good, Sony should pay me.

1. Graphics: I love the graphics/world. It is incredible that you can see a mountain in the distance and walk to it. Some don't like the lighting and shadows (or lack of) but it doesn't bother me. I have also heard some don't like the animations but again I never noticed.

2. Character classes: This is where the game shines. I like a MMO where everyone has a role to play for a successful group. Tank, healer, crowd control, damage dealer etc. This is what I hated about WOW in that in their attempt to balance the classes the role you played in the group was lost.

3. Dungeons: In most cases very well done.

4. Crashes: Been playing since launch and they have made incredible strides. I have not crashed in months.

5. Population: I play with 4 RL friends 95% of the time. The world does seem that it has quite a few players but I have never use the LFG screens so I can't say how long it takes to find a group.

The game also seems to have a very mature crowd which was a nice change from that other MMO.

Cool good to hear :). I'll have to check it out. I'm looking at Psionicist, I played an enchanter in EQ and it sounds similiar. The necromancer also sounds cool.

Could you post some screenshots? I swear, they were marketing the game as a graphical marble with awesome shadows, did I miss something?

I wished there was a trial out and to reactivate my account.. I'd definitely give it another run for old times sake. Plus, it'd be nice to see it run on my new rig :D.

Good game, but no substance at the late game portion made me quit early.. as did many others. Sad too considering I actually enjoyed it somewhat.

I might buy it and give it a try, after all it's only $28 on newegg and comes with one free month of subscription. Anyone out there want to team up and make a guild?

On second thought, considering Vanguard is now owned by SOE, I really really am surprised there isn't a trial offering :D Good luck finding people to play in the game bro, try looking at the official forums or silkyvenom.com to find out the official current state of the game.

LOL nvm, the game looks dead after I looked at some game tracker sites.
