Any vanguard guys have any trial keys for this game? A friend of mine and I would like to check it out.

I quit that game a while back. Got up to being a 48 Cleric and then just couldnt continue on.

Not trying to dissuade you from the game, but it just didnt have the holding power for me compared to the other MMOs i've tried. EQ2, SWG, WoW... all have been long stints, but this one... a month and a half.

I was testing since early alpha, though granted I didn't actually play all that much.
Maybe a lot has changed design-wise since mid beta, but somehow I doubt it.
If you can find a trial, go ahead and see what you think, but personally I got nothing out of the game.

I wouldn't waste my time doing a trial of that game... it's empty and .. well not good at all (which is why it's empty lol)

game has gotten 10x better still aways to go -

they are working on trial island right now but won't be out for a few weeks along with the model changes

I've quit and come back and it's alot better, you can download it from like sony.station.com/vanguard/install? or something like that but you will have to get a trial key from someone

Yeah I know the game sucks and the community is non-existent. My buddy is adamant about playing it though.

I for one just reactived my account to see if its changed.

how is it? how is the community now? I was an old school eq junkie and beta tested vanguard, but by the time it came out I was just out of pc gaming and mmo's entirely, now I am getting the itch again to play either eq again or perhaps try vanguard. I think wow sucks, I was bored as hell after a month, eq has 100 times more depth and the world is 20 times the size.

Not trying to be smart ass, is it really 20 times the size? Just wondering, I don't play EQ or WOW but I've heard that wow is pretty massive.

I would guess its close to 10 times, maybe more.. eq is coming out with its 14th expansion in a couple weeks.

EQ's world is truly massive, unfortunately 85% of the zones are devoid of players.

I bought it when it came out and played for about 2 weeks, off and on. Never got past level 12 or so. They merged all of the servers to 2 servers, so I'd think the population isn't that barren. The problem I see is that they're still working on adding things they were supposed to have at release. Poor rushed, rushed rushed game.

the game itself is absolutely fantastic... but the complete non-existance of raid content is what brought it down... there is *absolutely* NOTHING to do at the end but grind faction to upgrade some pieces of jewelry or armor slowly... I was the 2nd lvl 50 monk on my server, was absolutely in love with Vanguard, it gave me the old-school EQ1 feel that I missed so much... and then it just up and died, it bled and bled ALL the high end people constantly because there was nothing to do =/

What they need, is #1 a RELAUNCH... and #2 A free expansion to come with it adding tons of end-game to keep people busy, drooling for new gear, and always wondering whats behind the next raid mob... and #3 some AA points to keep grinding past lvl50!!!

They also need to fix the raid architecture, because in its aforementioned state, it couldn't handle many people, I think something like 2-3 group max, I think it was 2 grp... the graphics just destroyed everyones frame-rates unless you all got turned to skeletons (which is what my guild employed)...

I was so sad, the game was SO MUCH FUN and then... WHAM... nothing to do.

Anyone know if they added raiding? good raiding? yet... maybe I should check out silky venom...

Yeah raiding is coming up with the next patch, as well as the ability to get your own flying mount. I play on the PvP FFA server and the numbers are low so sometimes it is hard to get a group. but good fun nmw.

doox, if you're looking to get back into MMOs, and don't really have a preference for PVP (although if only just for fun at times) then LOTRO is doing quite well right now.

Ignoring all the awards it's already won, the game itself is a nice step back from the raid-centric atmosphere of WoW, or end-game EQ and EQII.

It's very lovely looking, the gameplay and skills streamline well, and for any LOTR fan it's a haven. Though it's not without it's typical MMO whims, because while it has some neat features, it's just another cookie cutter MMO.

I think the only game that's stepped out of the traditional mold so far has been Guild Wars, but only in the sense that it uses lots of instances. However many modern MMOs are using more and more instances as well.

So really there is nothing fresh out right now. If you don't want to give LOTRO a whirl, or don't mind waiting, Age of Conan, coming soon, should be the mold breaker. If anything, it's real time battle system will keep the point and click/button mashing with default keyboard mapping n00bs away. MMO players on average seem to have awful hand-eye coordination and fail miserably at FPS type games, so AOC will really work your hand muscles ;p

GL on whatever you decide.

Forgive my ingnorance, but didnt Sony buy out Sigil? How has it been after Sigil left? I played through Alpha,Beta, and the 1st month after launch, just curious.

Yes, Sony bought Sigil and Vanguard, then fired most of the people there. The game is probably tons better than its original launch, but they really need to do something massive to the game and relaunch for it to bring people over. I mean really, how are you going to bring people to that game after all of the harsh words and feelings from it have been floating around for so long. With EQ2, EQ1, WoW and LotR, why would someone come to vanguard with its history and no end game? And they have been telling people that raiding was coming in the next patch for a long time.
I think Vanguard had the most promise of any MMO and was the one I wanted to succeed the most, but it didn't. Sony should either give it away free or kill it and relaunch it next year with a new name. Right now, EQ2 is the best MMO, (in my opinion), so hit that one up if you need a fix...

yeah I quit this game also, very pretty game but lagged like garbage... I'd recommend RF Online, its free now.
