All my Valve games have gone flaky in the last day. I start the game and I have no mouse pointer or it flickers on/off and I cannot select menu options, in some cases I cant even use keys to navigate to exit/quit game.. L4D, HL, Hl2 Ep2, Peggle are all affected but Far Cry nad Bio Shoch are not.

any ideas?

Are you launching these games from within steam or from their individual exe's?

Anything else running in the background that could be tying up the mouse / keyboard and not letting the game take full control of the system?

Hi Ripskin,

thanks for the reply. My system was working just fine yesterday and I was able to play HL, then in the evening I started having problems with L4D. I checked other games and it is only affecting Valve games.

It does not matter how I start game - within Steam, s/c on desktop, in start, programs etc, or if I start from the game .exe

What new programs or games have you installed recently? Did you do a Windows update recently? What programs are running in the background?

I have installed Far Cry via Steam, then uninstalled the Far Cry Demo. Apart from that my system is unchanged..

I have Weather Tracker, Boinc, Kaspersky, Symmtime, all in the taskbar.

Last windowas update was a few days back

EDIT

I have tried ALT+ENETR while in game but in L4D and HL2 this does nothing, in Peggle, the game switches to window mode and the mouse works OK in the window but I cant use ALT+ENTER to switch back to full screen mode...

EDIT 2

If I run L4D or HL2 in window mode they works fine... I can live with this but it annoys me that something has changed and I cant figure it out

go into your mosue settting and uncheck hide pointer while typing was my problem :/

hey thanks for the idea... it did not work but it reminded me that I set "pointer trails" ON and turning this off seems to have fixed issue.

windows vista?!?! sorry im farking drunk... if u got xp there mouse_fix.zip

Yeah running Vista but I am happy to turn off "trails" so all good now
