HI all,

I have just received my 2005fpw, but being newbish I'm confused.

My system is the following -
A8n-Sli Deluxe
Antec Smartpower 500W
Nec 3550a
Geforce 6200 DVI
1gb G-Skill Ram
Athlon 3500+ Venice
Case is a Delux with LCD Display

I bought from a company who had pre-built everything (i chose the parts) and I bought the PSU. I installed that last night and it went ok, except my wires are scrambled everywhere and look really messy. (How much of a problem is this?)

I stick the white DVI cable into the screen, and the slot on my case. I turn it on and select DVI-D with the menu selector. I get a screen, but then it goes off in 'Power-Save' Mode saying I should move the mouse or press keyboard, but this does nothing at this stage although they are plugged in.

So do I put in my windows xp disc?, the 2005fpw disc? the motheboard disc?

Ive tried them all but they make no difference,

I know this is really stupid and I'm being thick
But thanks in advance for all the help!

Plug it into the slot on your case? Have you ever owned a computer before? Do you mean the DVI connection on the video card?

Did another monitor work before or is the first time you're hooking up any monitor? If you can't get past hooking up a monitor there isn't much hope.

Please don't be rude.

I have just looked, and yes the dvi-slot i have plugged it into the video card.

I did install all of the PSU successfuly which is a lot harder than the screen.

I know Im missing something really simple, what might that be?

And yes, this is a fresh system ,so it is the first monitor

Well I can assure you that the discs have nothing to do with it. Are you sure you hooked up the PSU properly?

Perhaps you forgot the additional 4 pin connector on the motherboard.

Restart your computer. I had the same problem at first, where it would take VGA but not DVI, and that fixed it. Go figure.

CRXican: I'm not sure if there is anything I can do to check the PSU has been installed correctly, but all the lights come on and everything 'wurrs' nicely.

I'm not sure whether I have done the additional 4 pin slot. What is this for, and what cable would connect into it?

Luke 1294: I have restarted many times sadly to nothing different though.

Thanks for the info

Edit: What means it has turned on properly? What actually happens. . .

Have you tried using VGA to see if it will boot?

BTW, the four pin connector he was speaking of looks like the one on the lower left. It's four pins arranged like a square if you're looking at it straight on.

Thanks very much quadnad, it was the fact that I hadn't plugged that part in - the guide I read didn't seem to include it.

I am now successfully setting up Windows, thanks very much for the help!
